There is a useful rhythm to this resort: leave the bustle of North Pattaya behind, pass through the palm trees and settle beside a 63-metre lagoon pool. Thai Garden Resort is a four-star resort built for days that need somewhere comfortable to land, whether you are travelling as a couple, with family or with enough luggage to make a small expedition of it.

You will be understood in English, as well as in Thai, German, Czech and Italian. That matters when you are arranging an early start, asking about dinner or explaining that your legs have had quite enough adventure for one day. Free WiFi runs throughout the resort, and the gardens, terraces and outdoor seating give you several places to slow down without having to leave the property.

The atmosphere is more resort than Robinson Crusoe. You have a pool, a bar, a restaurant, massages and evening entertainment on hand, while Pattaya remains close enough when you want more noise, more lights or a change of scenery.

The address is in Pattaya North, in Naklua, on North Pattaya Road. The sea is about 0.6 miles away, while Wong Amat Beach is around 1.1 miles from the resort and Naklua Beach about 0.9 miles away. You can walk to the beaches, but this is not a hotel where you step straight from your room onto the sand; the lagoon pool does the heavy lifting on site.

Pattaya Bay is about 0.6 miles away by the resort's description, and Pattaya Beach is roughly 1.1 miles on foot. Walking Street Pattaya is around 1.9 miles away, so the livelier end of town is accessible without making it your immediate neighbour. Pattaya Bus Terminal is about 0.9 miles away, and Pattaya Railway Station around 2.8 miles by road.

You also have small cafés close by, including Tea Village and CHAO DOI COFFEE, both within roughly 1,200 feet, with restaurants such as Armenia Restaurant and Lemon Tree Restaurant nearby. Art In Paradise Pattaya is about 0.5 miles away. For a longer outing, Mini Siam is around 1.8 miles away and Pattaya Hill about 2.7 miles.

A mosquito net is available, which is a detail worth noticing in a tropical resort rather than treating it as decoration.

If you are staying longer, or travelling with family, the One Bedroom Apartments give you more room to spread out, and the Two-Bedroom Apartment or Suite is the obvious choice when separate sleeping spaces matter. The accessible double room has wheelchair-accessible features, including a lower sink, raised toilet, grab rails and an emergency cord. Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side of the stay moving, while room service means you can eat in without changing out of the clothes that have already lost their battle with the day.

Breakfast is a buffet at Lanna Coffee Shop, with continental choices to get you moving before the day's plans begin. At Oasis Restaurant, you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the kitchen combining Thai flavours and international dishes made with local ingredients. The setting gives you a choice between an open-air terrace, outdoor seating and an air-conditioned interior, which is handy when the heat has stopped being charming.

Dinner service runs from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, while breakfast begins at 7:00 am. Saturday brings a themed dinner buffet, rotating through German, Mediterranean, international and barbecue styles. It is a sensible option when everyone wants something different and nobody has the energy to negotiate three separate restaurants.

There is one bar: the Lagoon Poolside Bar. It serves cocktails, mocktails, beer and light bites beside the pool, so you can move from the water to a drink without turning the evening into a logistical exercise. Special-diet menus are available on request, and the restaurant also offers a child-friendly buffet and children's meals.

The main piece of post-dive equipment is the Lagoon Pool, a 63-metre saltwater pool with four whirlpool jacuzzies. Sun loungers, umbrellas, pool towels and outdoor seating surround it, giving you the choice between swimming a few lengths, soaking tired muscles or doing absolutely nothing with reasonable purpose. There is also a children's pool, so family trips do not depend on everyone sharing the same idea of relaxation.

For more deliberate recovery, THE OASIS SPA® offers massages and facial treatments. The menu includes full-body, foot, head, neck, back, hand and couples massages. A couples treatment is the obvious selection when two people have spent the day in different bits of the sea and would like to meet again somewhere with softer lighting.

When the weather is still inviting but the pool has had enough of you, the gardens, patios and terraces provide quieter places to sit. Golf is available within 1.9 miles, and Saturday nights bring live music performances, with evening entertainment also available at the resort. A children's playground and outdoor play equipment add something for younger travellers, while babysitting is available as a service.

Check-in runs from 2:00 pm to midnight, and check-out is by noon. The front desk operates around the clock, with luggage storage, lockers, a concierge service, currency exchange and an on-site cash machine available when you need to sort out the less glamorous parts of travel. Early check-in and late check-out can be requested.

U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport is about 25 miles from the resort by road. An airport shuttle is available, either privately or as a shared service, and you can arrange it with the hotel. Free private parking is available on site without reservation, which is useful if Pattaya is one stop on a wider Thailand trip rather than the whole plan.

The resort is non-smoking throughout, with a designated smoking area, and pets are not allowed. Children of any age are welcome; children aged 13 and over are treated as adults for occupancy purposes.
