Rangiroa Diving Center

Rangiroa Diving Center is situated in the heart of the Tuamotu Islands, positioned on the main street right next to the Ohotu pier. This central location puts you within walking distance of the famous Tiputa Pass, one of the most dynamic diving environments in French Polynesia.

The centre is recognised for its commitment to sustainable marine practices, working closely with the PACT for Wildlife NGO and the Rangiroa Dolphin NGO. This focus on ethics ensures that your time in the water supports the local ecosystem and the protection of the area's diverse marine life.

The centre operates with a focus on safety and small group sizes to ensure a controlled experience in the often powerful currents of the atoll. They are affiliated with several major certifying bodies, including FFESSM, ANMP, SDI, TDI, and CMAS.

Training is available for a wide range of skill levels, from those taking their first breaths underwater to professional Divemasters. The team is experienced in managing the specific requirements of atoll diving, including the logistics of drift dives and managing depth limits when using Nitrox.

A comprehensive curriculum is available through multiple agencies, including SDI, TDI, and the FFESSM/CMAS systems. Beginners can start with the Open Water Scuba Diver course, with progression paths leading through Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver certifications.

For those looking to specialise or turn professional, the centre offers Deep Diver training, Divemaster programmes, and Open Water Scuba Instructor courses. Nitrox certification is also available via online modules, allowing you to prepare before you arrive on the atoll.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit for those not travelling with their own equipment. This includes regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, fins, and masks, all of which are regularly maintained.

On-site facilities include showers, toilets, and a dedicated area for rinsing kit. For those waiting between dives, the centre provides freshwater, tea, and instant coffee, along with free Wi-Fi access.

The marine life at the pass is dominated by large pelagics that follow the tidal movements. You can expect to see Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), various species of sharks, and large rays. The currents often bring in schools of Jack (Carangidae), snappers, and trevally.

In the reef areas, the biodiversity is immense. You will encounter a wide variety of tropical reef fish, including Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae), Parrotfish (Calotomus), and various Wrasse species. Sea turtles (Cheloniidae) are also frequently observed navigating the reef structures.

For those watching the water column, the presence of mammals is a highlight, with Bottlenose dolphin (Delphinidae) often seen in the vicinity. The ecosystem is further enriched by various species of rays and the constant movement of large predatory fish like the Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus).

Diving in Rangiroa is heavily influenced by the tides. The Tiputa and Avatoru passes experience strong outgoing and incoming currents daily as the tide shifts, which is a defining characteristic of the local drift diving.

The area is open for diving seven days a week, all year round. Divers should be prepared for varying current strengths depending on the tidal cycle and the specific site being visited.
