Dive In Sharm

The reefs are characterised by a vibrant array of fixed life, including various species of hard and soft corals, gorgonian fans, and sea anemones. You will find large populations of Anthias, sea anemones, and red anemones providing colour and structure to the seascape.

In the open water and along the walls, you can encounter various pelagic species and reef sharks. Look out for Grey reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), Blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus), and Whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus). Schools of fish such as jacks, trevallies, and various snapper species are common sights.

Macro life is abundant for those who know where to look, including Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) and various species of shrimp. You may also spot garden eels (Gorgasia) dancing in the sand or octopus (Octopus vulgaris) tucked into crevices.

In July, the area sees increased activity from larger species, including Jack (Carangidae), Batfish (Platax), and blackfin barracudas.

Diving in the Tiran Strait involves varying conditions; while Gordon Reef offers more sheltered moorings, sites like Thomas Reef, Woodhouse Reef, and Shark & Yolanda Reef are known for strong currents. These sites are best suited to divers with the appropriate experience level to manage drift diving.

Weather conditions can influence the ability to conduct drift dives at sites like Woodhouse Reef, where the lack of fixed anchorage means diving is dependent on suitable conditions.
