Located in Playa del Carmen on the Riviera Maya, Dive Mike sits at the gateway to some of the most diverse diving environments in the world. From the vibrant coral gardens of the Mesoamerican reef to the intricate limestone labyrinths of the Yucatan Peninsula, the centre provides access to a vast array of underwater landscapes.

Whether you are looking to complete your first Open Water Diver certification or are pursuing advanced technical training in cave diving, the centre is positioned to support your progression. The location allows for easy access to both the Caribbean Sea and the famous freshwater cenotes that define this region.

Operating since 2001, the centre is an established Instructor Development Centre with deep roots in the local diving community. The team is comprised of highly trained, multilingual instructors who focus on skill development and safety across all disciplines, from recreational to technical diving.

Beyond standard instruction, the centre is actively involved in marine conservation, specifically contributing to safety standards and identification programmes for local bull sharks. They also promote diversity within the industry through an all-female shark attractor team.

The centre provides a comprehensive curriculum through multiple affiliations, including PADI, SDI, TDI, IANTD, and CMAS. For beginners, they offer Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water Diver courses, alongside Refresher programmes for those returning to the water.

For more advanced divers, the training extends into technical and professional territory. This includes Advanced Scuba Certifications, Divemaster training, and full Instructor Development Courses. They are particularly noted for their expertise in technical disciplines, offering Cave Diving and Full Cave Diver certifications.

For those travelling without their own kit, a full range of equipment is available for hire, including BCDs, regulators, 3mm wetsuits, fins, masks, and snorkels. Divers can also rent dive computers and torches for night diving.

The centre maintains an on-site training pool, which is an essential facility for refining skills or conducting initial training sessions in a controlled, confined water environment.

The local reefs and Cozumel are home to a vast array of tropical fish, including Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), Parrotfish (Calotomus), and various species of Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae). You will often see large schools of grunts, Snapper (Lutjanus), and Jack (Carangidae) patrolling the reef, alongside Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) and various species of Grouper (Epinephelus).

Large pelagics and reef residents are a highlight of the region. Divers can encounter sea turtles (Cheloniidae), Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus), and Eagle ray (Aetobatus). During the winter season, from mid-November to the end of February, bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas) are frequently seen. In the summer months, from mid-May to mid-September, the area attracts divers looking for Whale Shark encounters.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants add incredible detail to the dive. Look closely for Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), various species of Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), and Shrimp (Caridea). The seabed and ledges are also home to Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), various species of Moray eel (Muraenidae), and Spiny lobster (Palinuridae).

The underwater scenery is defined by a rich architecture of life, including Hard coral (Scleractinia), brain corals, and various Soft coral (Alcyonacea) and gorgonians. Sponges (Porifera) and Sea anemone (Actiniaria) provide essential habitats for the many crustaceans and smaller reef fish that inhabit the ecosystem.

Diving in the region is possible all year long, with the cenotes offering stable, crystal-clear freshwater environments. Ocean diving varies depending on the season, particularly regarding the presence of seasonal species like bull sharks and whale sharks.

Night diving is a regular part of the local dive programme, with scheduled departures in the evenings depending on the sunset times.
