Akumal Dive Center

Instruction is available in both English and Spanish, ensuring clear communication for international divers. Whether you are starting your training or looking for a refresher, the team is geared towards supporting your progression through the various levels of certification.

The training programme covers the full spectrum of PADI certifications. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba or the Bubble Maker programme, eventually progressing through to Open Water Diver and PADI Scuba Diver levels.

For those looking to advance their skills, the centre offers Advanced, Rescue, and Nitrox courses. They also provide EFR (Emergency First Response) training and a Referral programme for divers looking to complete their training elsewhere.

The centre provides Nitrox for divers looking to extend their bottom time. For those who prefer not to carry their own heavy kit, various items are available for hire to ensure you are fully equipped for both reef and wreck diving.

Night dives are also a regular part of the programme, requiring appropriate lighting equipment which can be discussed with the team.

The reef ecosystems are home to a steady population of sea turtles and stingrays. You will find a wide variety of tropical fish darting through the coral formations, which include significant growths of elkhorn coral.

Between late November and February, there is the possibility of encountering bull sharks. This seasonal window offers a unique opportunity for divers looking for larger pelagics in the region.

The smaller inhabitants of the reef include Mayan gobies and various other species that thrive in the crevices of the coral and the sandy bottom. The biodiversity of the reef flat and the deeper walls ensures there is always something to observe during a drift or a deep dive.
