Blue Angel

Located on the southern coast of Cozumel, Blue Angel Resort sits directly on the water, offering a practical setup for divers. The centre operates with departures from its own pier, allowing you to transition from your accommodation to the dive site without unnecessary transfers.

The location is ideally positioned near Chankanaab National Park, placing you in the heart of the island's most significant marine environments. Whether you are looking for the classic Cozumel drift dive or the unique perspective of a night dive, the schedule is designed to accommodate different diving styles.

The diving operation is integrated with the Blue Angel Resort, providing a unified service for guests. The centre organises daily excursions with departures at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and 1 p.m., ensuring plenty of opportunities to get in the water.

For those interested in nocturnal marine life, night dives are available every two nights. These are conducted as single-tank excursions, requiring a minimum group of four divers to proceed.

Excursions depart directly from the resort's quay. The centre offers two-tank trips for morning and midday departures, allowing for deeper or longer bottom times to explore the reef systems. Twilight dives are also available, departing around 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. depending on the season, which include a second tank for a night dive session.

The reefs around Cozumel are home to a vast array of tropical reef fish, including various species of angelfish (Pomacanthidae), butterflyfish, and colourful parrotfish (Calotomus). You will frequently see large schools of fish, such as jacks (Carangidae), snappers (Lutjanus), and blue chromis, moving through the water column. Larger pelagics including eagle rays (Aetobatus), reef sharks (Carcharhinus), and even hammerhead sharks appear in the area.

Macro life and interesting invertebrates are abundant for those watching the substrate. You can find various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris), sea stars, and diverse shrimp (Caridea). Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae) and various eels, including the green moray (Gymnothorax funebris), provide excellent subjects for close-up photography.

Sea turtles are a constant presence in these waters, with sightings of Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), and Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). You may also encounter Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus) and various species of rays (Batoidea) gliding along the sandy bottom.

The hard coral structures provide the essential framework for this ecosystem, featuring brain corals, elkhorn coral, and various sea rods and sea fans (Gorgoniidae). Deep-water gorgonians and large sponges, including barrel sponges, add significant texture and colour to the reef walls.
