Good Vibes Diving has been operating in Playa del Carmen since 2016, established with a focus on sharing the technical and recreational joys of the underwater world. Situated within the Sayab hostel in the centre of town, the dive centre serves as a convenient base for exploring the diverse marine environments of the Yucatan Peninsula.

The centre's reach extends from the shallow reef flats of Playa del Carmen to the famous coral walls of Cozumel. Divers can choose between the unique, freshwater environments of the local cenotes or the salt-water adventures of the Caribbean coast, including specialised expeditions to encounter pelagics.

The instruction team is multi-certified, holding qualifications through SDI, TDI, and PADI. This allows them to provide a wide spectrum of training, from entry-level recreational courses to more advanced technical and professional programmes.

The team focuses on a family-style atmosphere, ensuring that whether you are a first-time diver or a professional Divemaster candidate, the approach remains personal. They manage a variety of specialised activities, including guided bull shark expeditions where instructor experience with large pelagics is paramount.

The training programme covers the entire spectrum of scuba diving. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver course, while those looking to progress can pursue Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster training.

For divers seeking to specialise, the centre offers several specific courses including Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. They also provide Sidemount Diver training for those interested in more technical configurations.

The centre provides a full range of equipment for hire, allowing you to travel light if you prefer. This includes regulators, BCDs, and exposure suits, as well as essential accessories like masks and fins.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time on reef or wreck dives. For those joining the whale shark excursions from Tulum, the centre provides air-conditioned mini-van transport to the departure point.

The reefs of Playa del Carmen and Cozumel are teeming with life, including schools of fish, turtles, rays, and moray eels. You will often encounter Nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum), various species of reef shark, and large groups of snapper (Lutjanus) and jack (Carangidae) patrolling the currents.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, from the delicate Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) to various species of shrimp (Caridea) and octopus (Octopus vulgaris). Keep an eye out for seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and even the occasional flamingo tongue snail tucked into the reef.

The larger pelagics draw divers to the region seasonally. Between June and September, Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) are often present, and this window also marks the arrival of whale sharks. For those visiting between November and March, the bull shark provides a thrilling encounter.

The underwater landscape is built upon a foundation of hard coral (Scleractinia), gorgonians, and various sponges (Porifera). You will see these alongside sea fans (Gorgoniidae), sea anemones (Actiniaria), and colourful soft corals (Alcyonacea) that provide habitat for the local resident fish.

Diving in the region varies significantly depending on whether you are in the open ocean or the cenotes. The cenote systems offer very still, protected water, making them excellent for mastering buoyancy and cave navigation.

Ocean diving in Cozumel and Playa del Carmen can be subject to currents, particularly when diving the deeper walls or during drift dives. The bull shark season from November to March offers specific opportunities for seeing these animals in the local waters.
