Third Dimension Diving

Located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, Third Dimension Diving has been a fixture of the local technical community since 2005. While based in Tulum to serve as a hub for the region's world-renowned cave systems, the centre also maintains a secondary base in Cozumel to facilitate deep wall diving and open water excursions.

The centre is defined by its focus on high-level training and problem-solving scenarios. Whether you are looking to progress through cave penetration or refine your technical skills, the facility is designed to support the rigorous requirements of advanced diving profiles.

The team consists of 5 instructors capable of guiding divers through a wide range of specialisations. They are proficient in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Catalan, ensuring clear communication during complex technical briefings.

With affiliations to GUE, IANTD, and TDI, the instruction follows strict, standardised protocols. The focus remains on robust, realistic training that prepares divers for the unpredictable nature of overhead environments and deep technical dives.

The course catalogue covers the entire spectrum of diving, from Open Water Diver for beginners to advanced Instructor Development programmes. For those moving into technical territory, the centre offers specialised training in Sidemount, Wreck, and Deep Diver certifications.

Technical divers can access specific training for CCR (rebreather) diving, Trimix, and DPV usage. The centre is also a recognised provider for GUE, IANTD, and TDI training programmes, including Cave training for those looking to master the local cenotes.

The centre is equipped to support serious technical divers, offering both backmount and sidemount configuration kit for hire. For those looking to extend their range during exploration, Suex XK1 and XJ37 DPVs (scooters) are available.

A full service workshop is located on-site, capable of handling drysuit repairs, regulator servicing, and valve maintenance. This makes it a practical stop for divers needing kit repairs during a multi-day trip.

On-site gas blending is a core service, with the ability to provide Nitrox, Trimix, and oxygen. The facility includes air-conditioned classrooms for theory work and comfortable spaces to prepare for dives.

In the cave systems and surrounding waters, you may encounter cave-adapted crustaceans and various small fish. The area is also known for sightings of manatees and the resident crocodile, Pancho.

On the reef walls and in the open water, the ecosystem is vibrant. You will often see schools of snapper, barracuda (Sphyraena), and various juvenile reef fish. Larger pelagic species are a regular feature of the deeper reef sections.

Macro life and reef residents include many species of tropical fish, such as Angelfish (Pomacanthidae) and Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae). You can also find Moray eel (Muraenidae), including the Green moray (Gymnothorax funebris), alongside various crabs (Brachyura) and lobsters (Homaridae).

The best time to dive in this region is between November and April, which coincides with the cooler and drier season. During this period, the water temperatures generally range between 25°C and 31°C.

Divers should be aware that the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef can experience good currents, particularly along the steep wall sections. The period from June to October is the hurricane season, which may affect local conditions.
