Safari Bali is a lodge stay inside Taman Safari Bali, where the hotel, wildlife park and themed restaurants are part of the same setting. The atmosphere is built around safari rather than beach life: timber furnishings, earthy colours, tribal details and open-air terraces where you can watch animals at close range. This is a particularly good fit if your trip needs more than a room between excursions, or if a diving holiday includes family members who would rather spend a day with elephants, giraffes and big cats than in another hotel pool.

The lodge gives you a base for a full day of wildlife activities, performances and food experiences without having to leave the park each time. It is a place with a clear personality, not a generic Bali resort with a few decorative masks on the wall. You can settle into the safari theme properly, then retreat to an air-conditioned room when the tropical heat has done its usual work.

You are in Keramas, Indonesia, at Jalan Bypass Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra, within the Taman Safari Bali park near Mount Agung. The setting is a wildlife park surrounded by a jungle and safari environment, rather than a built-up resort strip. Bali Safari & Marine Park is around 0.5 miles away by road, while Wisata Alam Batujong is about 1.5 miles away.

Lebih Beach is around 0.7 miles away by car, and Keramas Beach around 0.8 miles. Saba Beach is about 2.4 miles by road. For a change of scenery, Tegenungan Waterfall is around 6 miles away by car, while Ubud’s Monkey Forest is about 10 miles away. Warung Duma, Bakso Raya and Warung Minami are nearby places to eat, all within roughly 0.5 miles by road; Luwak Coffee Gunung Sari and Coffee Breakluwak Coffee are about 0.5 miles away.

The accommodation works best when you choose it around the people travelling with you. Couples can keep things simple with a Twiga or Swala room or lodge, with either a king-size or twin-bed arrangement depending on the option. Families have more room to spread out in the Kifaru or Tembo suites, with separate sleeping arrangements and more than one bathroom in the safari-park lodge versions. The larger Tembo option is designed for groups of up to six, so you are not trying to fit a family and several day bags into a couple’s room after a long outing.

Every lodge has an open-air terrace, seating area and a view, with garden views available. That terrace is the feature that gives the room its purpose: you can sit outside and watch the park rather than merely looking at another building. Inside, air conditioning takes the edge off a hot evening, while a refrigerator, minibar, kettle and tea and coffee facilities deal with the practical business of cooling down and finding a drink without putting shoes back on. A mosquito net, private bathroom, shower, bathrobe, slippers and hairdryer are also provided.

There is a flat-screen television with cable and satellite channels, streaming services, a desk and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. The family suites bring the useful extra space; the smaller rooms suit a couple who would rather spend the day in the park than conduct a furniture inspection. The safari-themed design continues indoors, but the essentials remain straightforward.

Dinner here can be a wildlife event as much as a meal. Tsavo Lion Restaurant serves international cuisine beside the lion enclosure, with full-length glass windows placing the pride directly into your dining view; vegan options are available. Nkuchiro Restaurant covers breakfast, lunch and dinner with grill cooking, panoramic views and a setting close to the giraffes. Its programme includes afternoon high tea, breakfast with giraffes and BBQ dinner.

Uma Restaurant takes the food-court route in an ethnic-village setting, serving international, Asian and local specialities buffet-style by request throughout the day. Varuna Underwater Dining is the more theatrical option, combining lunch or dinner with a staged underwater-themed performance in which the story unfolds through the dishes, acts and performers. It is not a quiet bowl-of-noodles arrangement, so choose it when you want the evening to have a plot.

There are seven named places for drinks, snacks or lighter eating: Kafe Siki for bakery items and pastries, Barong Cafe for toast, Cafe Hanuman for international street food, Ganesha Cafe for fruit-based and healthy options, Rainforest Cafe, Big Cat Café and the Lobby Barong. Room service, a minibar, an on-site coffee house, fruit and a bar add useful options when you have had enough scheduled activity for one day.

The wildlife park is the main activity, and it gives you considerably more to do than simply looking at animals from a vehicle. Safari Journey can be taken by tram or 4x4 Jeep, while Night Safari adds an evening outing with live performances including The Rhythm of African Fire Dance Show. Bali Agung Show brings live theatre, and educational presentations cover animals, tigers and elephant conservation.

You can also choose animal-feeding sessions with giraffes, elephants and meerkats, encounters with orangutans, binturongs, birds and iguanas, and several elephant-focused experiences. Peken Bali offers a cultural market, while Fun Zone has rides and water attractions including Spinning Coaster, Flume Ride, Inca Maya Jungle Cruise, Hydrolift, Gogo Bouncer and Watermania. Weather and animal welfare can affect activity timings or whether an activity runs, which is rather more sensible than expecting a tiger to follow a timetable.

For a slower afternoon, Kiboko Swimming Pool, the outdoor Water Play Zone, sun loungers and pool towels are available. Mara Spa offers spa and wellness services, and in-room massage is available. The Water Play Zone includes slides and a water playground, making it more of a family splash area than a serious swimmer’s training ground.

Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 15 miles away by road, with the journey listed at roughly 26 minutes. The lodge is also around a 20-minute drive from Sanur and about 45 minutes from Ubud. A shuttle service is available from Kuta, Seminyak, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Legian and Sanur, and you need to reserve it with the hotel. Free private parking is available on site without reservation.

Check-in runs from 15:00 and check-out is by 12:00. You need photo identification and the card used for the booking at check-in; cash is accepted for payment at the property. A damage deposit is collected on arrival and returned at check-out after the property has been inspected, so keep that administrative detail in mind rather than spending every last rupiah on the final safari souvenir.

A 24-hour front desk, concierge service, luggage storage, wake-up service, laundry and room service cover the useful day-to-day matters. Children of any age are welcome, and extra beds can be requested for children aged three and over, subject to availability. There are no cots, and pets are not allowed.
