Buitan Beach is the nearest named beach at roughly 1,500 feet by road. Nyuh Gading Mendira Beach is about 0.8 miles away on foot, and Candidasa Beach is about 2 miles away by road. Several simple local restaurants, including Warung Nyoman, Warung Jawa Bu Aning and Warung Taman Sari Buitan, are within roughly 250-350 metres.

You are in a greener, less urban part of Bali, with coconut groves, gardens and the hills around Mount Agung shaping the backdrop. Ngurah Rai International Airport is around 36 miles away, with a journey of roughly 90 minutes by car depending on traffic. Special diets and food allergies can also be catered for.

The detail worth remembering is Megibung, a traditional shared meal from East Bali, served on a carved wooden dulang. Local sea salt, collected from the salt pans near Goa Lawah, is part of the story on the plate. There is also a seafood barbecue on Friday evenings, while a Balinese Megibung, a beach picnic breakfast and an intimate five-course dinner for two can be arranged.

Ocean Bar is the resort's one named bar: an open-air beach bar for cocktails, creative drinks and light bites, with the sea doing the background music without charging a cover version. Room service runs from 7:00 to 22:30 for last orders, useful when the day's diving has left you more interested in food than conversation.

Spa Alila is open daily from 9:00 to 21:00, with massages, Balinese massage and wellbeing treatments delivered in open-air bales facing the sea. Yoga and meditation take place at Surya Shala, an open-air space overlooking the ocean.

You can join scheduled yoga on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or Taichi on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The Underwater Garden uses table corals and concrete bells as habitats for fish and shrimp; it is visited weekly and enriched monthly.
