Kasai Point, Cebu: Wall Diving and Turtle Encounters

Your dive at Kasai Point begins with a dramatic descent down a steep slope, an immediate introduction to the site's topography. While the slope carries on to 40 metres, the core of the dive unfolds as you level off around 20 metres, then slowly begin your ascent back towards 10 metres. This profile allows you to experience the full vertical diversity of the site, from the deeper water's unique features to the shallower reef life, all without pushing the limits of a recreational dive.

The wall itself is riddled with numerous canyons, inviting exploration as you navigate their contours. Keep an eye out for several smaller caves tucked into the reef structure; these offer interesting points of focus and often shelter unique inhabitants. The interplay of light and shadow within these geological features creates a dynamic environment, evolving as you move deeper or shallower along the wall’s face.

As you explore, you'll notice a distinct shift in the coral landscape with depth. The shallower sections of Kasai Point are dominated by large, robust hard corals, showcasing vibrant colours and intricate structures. Kasai Point is known for its resident green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas agassizii). You will very likely encounter them gracefully navigating the reef, often found resting on ledges or cruising along the wall. In addition to these majestic reptiles, the site is a haven for macro life, with numerous nudibranchs (Nudibranche) camouflaged among the corals. Keep a sharp eye to spot these colourful molluscs as you move through the reef.

Another highlight of this site is the sheer abundance of fish life, particularly the large schools of razorfish (Aeoliscus strigatus). These slender, vertically oriented fish congregate in impressive numbers, often near overhangs or within the protection of the reef's crevices. Their synchronous movements create a mesmerising spectacle, adding a vibrant, active layer to the diverse ecosystem of Kasai Point.
