Mactan Scuba University (MSU) is situated in Mahayahay, Lapu-Lapu City, serving as a dedicated hub for both recreational diving and professional development in the Cebu region. Established in 2018, the centre has quickly become a cornerstone for those looking to advance their skills in the Philippines.

The centre is distinguished by its high standard of training, particularly within its professional programmes. It is one of the few facilities in the country to host a resident PADI Course Director, ensuring that aspiring professionals have direct access to high-level mentorship throughout their instructor training.

As a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center, MSU focuses heavily on the transition from recreational diver to professional. The centre is noted for its disciplined approach to the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), maintaining a 100% pass rate for its candidates since 2018.

The instructional team provides a multilingual environment, with staff capable of conducting training in English, Japanese, German, Bisaya, and Tagalog. This international outlook makes it a versatile choice for divers from various backgrounds.

Larger residents such as Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), trevallies, and big mouth mackerels are common sights around the reefs.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, from Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) to various species of Crab (Brachyura) and Shrimp (Caridea). Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and Frogfish (Antennarius) provide excellent subjects for underwater photography.

The reef structure itself is a living landscape, composed of Hard coral (Scleractinia), soft corals (Alcyonacea), sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and delicate sea whips. These corals provide the habitat for schools of fish, ribbon eels, and various crustaceans like crabs and shrimp.

For those looking for larger encounters, the region offers sightings of Whale shark (Rhincodon typus), sea turtles (Cheloniidae), and occasionally Manta ray (Mobula alfredi). You may also see reef sharks (Carcharhinus) and various large pelagics patrolling the deeper sections.
