Cebu Seaview Dive Resort

Built by divers for divers, Cebu Seaview Dive Resort keeps the emphasis firmly on the sea without turning the hotel into a glorified equipment shed. The resort has 20 rooms spread through tropical gardens, with the shoreline, an infinity pool and an open-air restaurant forming the daily backdrop. You can come here for the diving, certainly, but the layout also gives non-divers somewhere to sit while you disappear beneath the surface.

The setting is relaxed and sociable rather than formal. Breakfast, a sea view and a pool bar are all close at hand, while the gardens give the property room to breathe. For a couple, that means one of you can take the morning slowly by the pool or at the beach while the other gets on with the serious business of bubbles. A sensible arrangement, especially when dive plans and holiday plans do not always march in step.

You are in Moalboal, on the western shore of Cebu Island in the Philippines, at Sitio Talisay on Panagsama Beach. The resort sits directly on the seafront, overlooking the Tañon Strait Protected Seascape, with a reef at the water’s edge. This is a rocky, coral-covered shore rather than a broad strip of soft sand, which matters if your idea of a beach day involves swimming rather than looking for the easiest entry.

Panagsama Beach is right outside the resort, while Moalboal town centre is about 2.5 miles away. Hungry Monkeys is about 300 metres away, with Arista Restaurant and Last Filling Station also within roughly half a mile. Basdiot Beach is about 1 mile away, and Basdaku White Beach is about 2.5 miles away. Kawasan Falls is 16 miles from the resort, so a waterfall day is an outing rather than a casual stroll after breakfast.

The room choice is mainly about how you want to wake up. The Deluxe Double Room with Balcony and Sea View suits a couple who would rather open the curtains onto the water, while the King Room with Sea View gives you the largest room category and a super-king bed. If separate beds matter, the twin rooms keep the arrangement straightforward. The resort’s rooms all have private verandas, so even the first coffee of the day can happen outside rather than over the dive centre’s paperwork.

Air conditioning is welcome in Cebu’s heat, particularly when your skin has spent hours in salt water and your legs have done their share of the work. A refrigerator gives you somewhere to keep drinking water cool, while the kettle covers the basic hot drink ritual before or between dives. You also get a private bathroom with shower, a wardrobe, a desk, USB charging points, free coffee and tea, free drinking water, a safety deposit box and a drying rack for clothing.

The grounds offer both sea-facing rooms and inner-courtyard views, so the view depends on the category you choose. The private entrance and balcony or terrace make it easy to come and go without turning every return from the beach into a full parade through the property. Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side of the stay moving, while free WiFi is available throughout the resort.

The open-air restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with Filipino specialities alongside international favourites. It sits beside the infinity pool and close to the sea, with some tables offering partial ocean views and shoreline seating directly above the beach. Breakfast is included, and unlimited coffee or tea covers the first caffeine requirement of the day. For lunch, the setting works particularly well between dives: no grand expedition required, just food, sea air and the next tank on your mind.

There is one named bar: Sharky’s Pool Bar. It looks towards the ocean and handles the sensible post-dive requirements with cocktails, cold beers, fresh fruit shakes and other refreshments. A snack bar and minibar are also available. Special-diet menus can be arranged on request, and children’s meals are available. The restaurant is family-friendly, but the combination of open air, poolside tables and sunset views will probably appeal just as much to couples who have spent the afternoon arguing about who saw the turtle first.

The infinity pool is the obvious landing place when you are done with the sea for the day. Sun loungers, beach chairs and umbrellas let you choose between sitting by the water and claiming a patch of shade, while the open-air bath offers another way to slow down without committing to a full excursion. The resort’s private beach area is directly accessible, although the reef shore is better suited to snorkelling and exploring than to long barefoot walks.

For a more active afternoon, bicycle rental, bike tours, walking tours and local culture tours are available. Hiking and cycling take you beyond the property, while motorbike rental gives you more independence for seeing Moalboal and its surroundings. Organised outings include jungle adventure tours, canyoning, electric fat-bike tours, trekking, gyrocopter flights, island hopping and whale-shark watching or swimming in Oslob.

Massage is available, including full-body, couples, head, neck, back, hand and foot treatments. Babysitting is also available, which gives families a practical option when adults want an hour to themselves. The resort even offers underwater weddings, for anyone who regards a conventional ceremony as insufficiently complicated.

Mactan-Cebu International Airport is around a four- to five-hour drive away. The resort can arrange an airport pick-up transfer, either privately or as a shared shuttle, through the hotel. If you travel independently, the usual route is across Cebu by road towards Moalboal; buses run from Cebu City, with a taxi or tricycle needed for the final leg to Panagsama Beach. Free private parking is available on site if you arrive by car.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 17:00, and you need to tell the resort your expected arrival time. Check-out is at 11:00. Private check-in and check-out are available, as is daily housekeeping. WiFi is free throughout the resort, and grocery deliveries can be arranged. Children of any age are welcome, while cots and extra beds are not available, so check the sleeping arrangement carefully if you are travelling as a family. Pets are not allowed.

The infinity pool uses copper ions and ultraviolet light instead of chlorine, reducing chemical use by more than 80% through technology from Germany. The result is a pool designed around lower chemical use while keeping the water clear for swimming and diving.

The resort also links tree planting with its ecotourism commitment for underwater wedding couples. It is a small, concrete measure attached to a very specific resort experience, rather than a cloud of green promises floating above the beach.
