Wetzone Divers

Wetzone Divers is a PADI-affiliated centre located in Khao Lak, serving as a gateway to the premier dive sites of the Andaman Sea. Operating from November through to the end of April, the centre focuses on day trips and multi-day safaris that reach the deep-water reefs and granite formations of the Similan and Surin archipelagos.

The centre is built around a commitment to the local marine environment, implementing plastic-free policies and providing stainless steel thermal flasks for water refills. This approach ensures that the high-traffic dive sites they visit remain as pristine as possible for the pelagics that frequent them.

The team operates with a professional focus on small group dynamics, maintaining a maximum ratio of four divers per guide. This ensures that whether you are completing a certification or exploring a new reef, you have dedicated attention from your instructor or dive guide.

Wetzone Divers provides a full range of PADI training, from entry-level courses to professional development. Their curriculum includes everything from Open Water Diver to Divemaster, as well as specialised training like the PADI Enriched Air Nitrox course.

Wetzone Divers offers a comprehensive PADI training programme. For those starting their journey, they provide the Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses.

For more experienced divers, the centre runs the PADI Rescue Diver course and professional-level training, including the PADI Divemaster programme. They also offer the PADI Enriched Air/Nitrox course and the PADI TEC REC Enriched Air course for those looking to expand their technical capabilities.

The Blue Marlin is a fast dive boat specifically designed for day excursions, with a capacity for 20 divers. It serves as the primary vessel for trips to the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, and Koh Tachai.

Onboard, the boat provides lunch, fruit, and a freshwater refill system using stainless steel thermal flasks. For those looking to extend their experience, the centre also organises multi-day safaris to the Similan and Surin Islands via partner vessels.

The centre offers full equipment hire for divers who prefer not to travel with their own kit. This includes all necessary diving components, with dive computers available for hire separately.

For underwater photographers, underwater camera kits are also available for rent. The centre also maintains a shop stocked with eco-friendly products, such as reef-repair items, to support responsible diving in the national parks.

The reefs are defined by a rich tapestry of hard corals and soft corals, including vibrant yellow and pink varieties. You will find a high density of tropical reef fish, such as snappers, emperors, and various species of butterflyfish and angelfish, navigating the coral gardens.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to explore among the crevices. The area is home to a great variety of Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and Ornate ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus). Look closely for mantis shrimp, harlequin shrimps, porcelain crabs, and various species of shrimp and crabs.

In the open water and along the walls, larger species appear frequently. You can encounter Manta ray (Mobula alfredi), Whale shark (Rhincodon typus), and various reef sharks, including Blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) and Whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus). Large schools of mackerels, barracudas, and trevallies are also common sights in the blue.

Diving in this region is best experienced between November and April. During this window, the sea conditions are generally most favourable for reaching the outer islands.

At sites like Koh Tachai, divers should be prepared for partially strong currents on the plateau. Always check the local conditions with your guide before heading out to ensure your skill level is suited to the day's swell and flow.
