France Plongée

France Plongée has been a fixture in the Gulf of Thailand since 2011, established by Eric and Laurent. Today, the team of Pascal, Sebastien, and Laurent manages operations across two key locations in Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, serving a community of divers looking for technical precision and a warm, local atmosphere.

The centre holds PADI 5 Star status and operates as an Aqualung partner, ensuring that the equipment you use meets high standards. With a focus on sharing local knowledge and maintaining a friendly environment, it is a reliable base for those looking to explore the diverse marine ecosystems of the Thai islands.

The team is primarily francophone, making it an ideal choice for French-speaking divers seeking instruction in their native language. The centre maintains a professional approach to safety and training, with a guide ratio of one instructor for every four divers.

As a PADI 5 Star centre, the training covers the full spectrum of recreational and professional progression. From initial entry-level courses to Divemaster training, the instructors focus on skill mastery and local site familiarity.

The curriculum is extensive, covering all PADI certification levels from Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver through to Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver. For those looking to professionalise, Divemaster courses are also available.

Specialty training is a core part of the offering, including Nitrox, Deep Diver, Night Diving, Navigation, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. The centre also provides more technical training such as Sidemount and Search and Recovery, alongside EFR (Emergency First Response) certification.

The centre utilises fast and comfortable speedboats to reach the dive sites quickly. These vessels are powered by either two or three engines, ensuring reliable transit to offshore locations like Sail Rock.

On board, you will find meals, snacks, water, and drinks provided during the trips. The boats are equipped to handle full-day excursions and night dives, allowing for efficient travel between the islands and the reefs.

The shore-based facilities include a dedicated 10-metre training pool, which is three metres deep, making it a useful resource for buoyancy training and introductory dives. For gas blending, the centre uses two Coltri MCH16 compressors capable of providing air or Nitrox up to 40%.

High-end kit is a priority here, with the centre offering Aqualung equipment including Pro HD and Axiom BCDs, Legend regulators, and Stratos3, Express, or Storm fins. Full equipment hire is available for those not travelling with their own rig.

The reefs are home to a vast array of pelagics and schooling fish. You can expect to see large barracuda, bigeye trevally, and various species of grouper, alongside schools of platax and parrotfish. In the deeper sections or near pinnacles, sightings of whale sharks and cobia are possible.

Fixed life is abundant across the various coral reefs and rocky formations. The sites are decorated with colourful corals, anemones, and various sea urchins and sea cucumbers. You may also encounter turtles and stingrays resting on the seabed.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers plenty of smaller treasures. Keep an eye out for various nudibranchs, moray eels, porcupinefish, and diverse crustaceans including crabs and shrimp. Divers may also spot sea anemones hosting clownfish or encounter a sea snake near the rocky outcrops.

Diving in this region is subject to varying conditions depending on the specific site. While many reef flats are calm, sites like Green Rock can experience strong currents that require more advanced buoyancy control.

Night diving is a regular part of the local dive programme, offering a completely different perspective on the reef's inhabitants.
