Master Divers

Master Divers has been a fixture of the Koh Tao diving community since 1992. Located in Mae Haad, the centre has built a reputation for balancing high-standard professional training with a genuine commitment to reef conservation and ecosystem protection.

As a PADI 5 Star centre, they cater to the entire spectrum of the diving community. You will find everyone from those completing their first Open Water Diver certification to professional candidates undergoing the Instructor Development Course (IDC).

The team is composed of PADI certified instructors with extensive global experience. They operate with a strict instructor-to-diver ratio, ensuring that no more than four divers are under the direct supervision of a single guide at any time.

Beyond standard recreational instruction, the centre acts as a PADI Career Development Center (CDC). This allows them to offer elite mentorship for professional candidates, including those working through the Staff Instructor programme or the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and MSDT preparation.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering every level of the PADI system. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver course, progressing through Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver, eventually reaching the Divemaster level.

Specialty courses are a core part of the curriculum, including PADI Wreck Diver, Deep Diver, Night Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. For those interested in technical or specialised skills, they offer Sidemount Diver, Self Reliant Diver, and Underwater Navigator training. The centre also provides professional development through the IDC, MSDT preparation, and the PADI Staff Instructor programme.

The centre operates two distinct vessels to suit different diving requirements. Their large boat can accommodate up to 35 divers and features a dedicated wet area, marine toilets, and a freshwater shower. For comfort between dives, the upper deck provides a solarium and a refreshment area stocked with tea, coffee, water, and biscuits.

A smaller boat is utilised for more specialised trips, such as muck diving, snorkeling groups, or professional training sessions. Both vessels depart via private speedboat from the beach, allowing for efficient transit to the local dive sites.

The centre provides full equipment hire, featuring premium brands such as Aqualung Core regulators and Pro HD BCDs. This ensures that even if you are not bringing your own kit, you are diving with reliable, high-performance gear.

On-site facilities include freshwater showers and dedicated areas for rinsing kit. Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time, and the centre maintains on-site oxygen safety equipment for emergency response.

The local reefs are home to a vibrant array of reef fish, including various species of butterflyfish, angelfish (Pomacanthidae), and damselfish (Pomacentridae). You will regularly see schools of fish such as fusiliers (Caesio), snappers (Lutjanus), and various jacks (Carangidae) moving across the reef.

Larger pelagics and predators can be encountered, including blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), reef sharks (Carcharhinus), and various species of barracuda such as great barracudas (Sphyraena barracuda) and chevron barracudas. Turtles, including green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), are also part of the local ecosystem.

For those with an eye for the small, the area offers excellent macro life. You can find nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), various crustaceans, shrimp (Caridea), and even ghost pipefishes or seahorses (Hippocampus kuda) amongst the corals.

The seabed is a complex landscape of hard corals (Scleractinia), soft corals (Alcyonacea), sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and various sponges (Porifera). These structures provide a home for anemones (Actiniaria), sea whips, and colourful gorgonians.

Diving in the Koh Tao area is conducted from private speedboats, which allows for flexible scheduling and access to various sites. Divers should be aware that they must stay within the limits of their current certification level at all times.
