Simple Life Divers

Simple Life Divers has been a fixture of the Koh Tao diving community since 2003. Located on the sands of Sairee Beach, this award-winning PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre (IDC) has trained thousands of divers and professionals over the last two decades.

The centre is deeply integrated into the local marine environment through its 'Alotmeant' reef restoration project, run in partnership with Thailand’s Department of Marine & Coastal Resources. This commitment to conservation is paired with high-standard technical facilities, including on-site Nitrox blending and professional equipment maintenance.

As an IDC, the centre is geared towards both recreational enthusiasts and those pursuing a professional career in diving. They offer full Scuba Diving Internships, including Explorer and Instructor programmes, for students looking to advance through the PADI hierarchy.

The team consists of knowledgeable PADI professionals who maintain small group sizes to ensure personalised attention during training or fun dives. Beyond instruction, the centre manages three affiliated resorts—Simple Life Talay, Simple Life Cliff View Resort, and Simple Life Resort—to provide integrated accommodation options for divers.

The centre provides the complete PADI curriculum, catering to every level of experience. Beginners can start with the PADI Scuba Diver course or the Open Water Diver course, while those looking to advance can enrol in AOWD, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, or Nitrox specialty courses.

Professional training is a core focus, with pathways leading through Rescue Diver and Divemaster to the Instructor Development Course (IDC). They also offer specialised training in Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, Underwater Photography, Drift Diving, and Coral Conservation Levels 1 and 2.

The centre operates a custom-built dive boat designed specifically for scuba diving operations. The vessel features a spacious downstairs dive deck equipped with an entry platform, cylinders, weights, and a compressor, alongside a dedicated W/C.

For surface intervals, the upstairs area provides a relaxing space with seating, refreshments, whiteboards, maps, and fish charts. The boat is used for daily fun diving tours to the island's best sites, including Sail Rock, and is equipped to handle Nitrox diving.

The shore-based facilities are designed for efficient dive preparation, featuring two purpose-built training pools at different depths and three air-conditioned classrooms equipped with Smart TVs and whiteboards. Maintenance is handled by a dedicated Western scuba technician to ensure all kit meets high standards.

On-site gas blending is managed via a land-based Nitrox blending panel and two compressors. For those requiring rental kit, a full range of high-quality equipment from leading manufacturers such as Scubapro, Aqualung, Catalina, and Luxfer is available, including 2.5mm neoprene wetsuits.

The reefs around Koh Tao are teeming with life, from large schools of fish to diverse hard and soft corals. You will regularly encounter various species of snapper, fusiliers, and wrasse moving through the water column, alongside colourful reef fish like butterflyfish, angelfish (Pomacanthidae), and parrotfish.

Large pelagics are a highlight of the area, with great barracudas (Sphyraena barracuda), chevron barracudas, and yellowtail barracudas frequently seen in schools. Divers often spot reef sharks (Carcharhinus), blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), and the occasional whale shark (Rhincodon typus) during the right season.

On the seabed, look for turtles, including green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), as well as blue-spotted rays and stingrays. The reef structure is decorated with giant soft coral, sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and various sponges (Porifera), providing a home for many creatures.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers plenty of interest, including nudibranchs, seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and various crustaceans like crabs (Brachyura) and shrimp (Caridea). You may also find octopus (Octopus vulgaris), moray eels (Muraenidae), and various scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae) tucked into the reef crevices.

Diving is possible throughout the year, though November is the monsoon season which can bring strong winds, large waves, and reduced visibility.

During the rest of the year, the sea is typically calm with mild or negligible currents, making it a reliable location for both training and exploration.
