The Life Aquatic

Located in a lush coconut grove near the quiet beach of Mae Nam, The Life Aquatic has been operating in the Koh Samui area since 2016. The centre is positioned to provide easy access to the outer islands of the Gulf of Thailand, using Bangrak Beach as a primary departure point for excursions.

As a Green Fins member, the centre integrates environmental awareness into its daily operations. They cater to a wide spectrum of divers, from those looking to try scuba for the first time to professional-level Divemasters seeking advanced training.

The team consists of 9 instructors capable of conducting dives and courses in English, French, German, and Italian. This multilingual approach ensures clear communication during briefings and underwater training sessions.

Safety is managed through a strict instructor-to-diver ratio, with a maximum of 2 divers per guide. This small group setup allows for close supervision, which is particularly beneficial during specialty courses or for those working towards their initial certifications.

Beyond recreational diving, the centre offers structured programmes for children, including Scuba Rangers and Junior programs. They also host ecology-focused programmes designed to deepen a diver's understanding of the local marine environment.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of PADI and SSI certifications. For beginners, they offer Try Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, and Open Water Diver courses, as well as Junior versions for younger divers.

Advanced training covers the full progression through Advanced Diver, Diver Stress & Rescue, and professional-level courses such as Dive Guide and Divemaster. They also offer specialized training including PADI Deep Diver, Navigation, Perfect Buoyancy, and Wreck Diving.

For those looking to extend their technical or scientific knowledge, the curriculum includes Enriched Air Nitrox, the Science of Diving, and various Ecology and Marine Ecology programmes. Emergency First Response training for Primary and Secondary Care is also available.

The centre operates two purpose-built vessels: a speedboat and a high-speed catamaran, each with a capacity for 24 divers. These boats are designed for fast transfers to offshore destinations, ensuring more time spent in the water.

Onboard, you will find essential amenities including a marine toilet, a freshwater shower, and food and drinks. For safety, the boats are equipped with GPS, a compass, life jackets, a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, and emergency oxygen.

The shore-based facilities include an air-conditioned classroom for theory sessions and a dedicated training pool for buoyancy and skill practice. A well-maintained equipment room is available for those needing to store or prepare their kit.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for divers who do not wish to travel with their own regulator, BCD, or wetsuit. The centre also maintains a shop for those looking to purchase dive gear, with a student discount available on regular-priced items.

The waters around Koh Samui and the surrounding islands are known for significant pelagic encounters. Whale sharks are the most notable seasonal visitor to the area, particularly around sites like Sail Rock.

On the reefs, you will find a variety of hard and soft corals that provide the structure for a busy ecosystem. The habitat supports a wide range of reef fish and larger species that frequent the pinnacles and walls.

Macro life enthusiasts can look for smaller organisms tucked into the reef structure, though specific species counts for the immediate Samui area are best discovered during the dive itself.

The centre operates daily trips to the outer islands, with departures from Bangrak Beach providing efficient access to the deeper waters of the Gulf. Divers should be prepared for typical tropical marine conditions, including varying currents depending on the specific site and tide.
