Safari Diving Lanzarote

Safari Diving is one of the most established dive centres on Lanzarote, having operated for over 40 years. Situated directly on the Playa Chica beach in Puerto del Carmen, the centre is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the sheltered waters of the bay while remaining a short boat trip away from the island's more varied underwater topography.

The centre operates with a dual-base concept through its partnership with Dive College Lanzarote in Playa Blanca. This allows you to access a broader selection of the island's best dive sites, whether you prefer the convenience of shore entries or the variety offered by boat-based excursions.

The team consists of six professional instructors capable of guiding you through everything from your first breath underwater to advanced technical specialties. They are an international crew, providing instruction and guidance in English, Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian, French, and Polish.

As a centre affiliated with PADI, BSAC, and SSI, they cater to a diverse range of certification requirements. Their experience is particularly evident in their ability to navigate the local sites and spot the more elusive species that inhabit the volcanic structures of the Canary Islands.

A comprehensive range of training is available through PADI and BSAC affiliations. Beginners can start with the PADI Scuba Diver or BSAC Ocean Diver courses, progressing through to Open Water and Advanced levels.

For those looking to specialise, the centre offers several PADI specialty courses, including Nitrox, Wreck Diver, Deep Diver, Night Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. They also provide training in underwater navigation, search and recovery, and digital underwater photography. More advanced divers can work towards their PADI Divemaster certification.

The centre provides full equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes the essential components for a comfortable dive, such as wetsuits, regulators, and fins.

For those interested in extending their bottom time or diving deeper, Nitrox is available on-site. The facility is conveniently located for easy access to the water, and the centre can also assist with organising transport and accommodation for groups.

The volcanic reefs and walls are home to a diverse array of large species. You can regularly observe great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), rays (Batoidea), and various groupers (Epinephelus). Angel sharks (Squatina) and stingrays are also part of the local ecosystem.

For those interested in macro life, the crevices and sponges provide a habitat for many smaller creatures. You can find nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris). Spiny spider crabs (Maja squinado) and cleaner shrimps (Lysmata) are also common sights among the reef structures.

The environment is rich with fixed life, providing a colourful backdrop to your dives. You will encounter various sponges (Porifera), black coral, and anemones, alongside a variety of reef fish and crustaceans like the Canary spiny lobster (Palinuridae).

The local diving is characterised by a variety of environments, from sheltered bays like Playa Chica to more open sites accessible by boat. Many of the preferred sites involve drifting along lava reefs or navigating through rocky formations.

While many sites are accessible for all levels, certain locations like the Cathedral or the deeper wrecks require an Advanced certification due to depths reaching 30 metres and the nature of the underwater topography.
