The Wave Diving Center

Located in Sharm El Maya near the Old Market, The Wave Diving Center has been a fixture of the Sharm El Sheikh diving scene since 1995. This long-standing presence in the Red Sea means the team possesses a deep understanding of the local currents, topography, and seasonal patterns that define this region.

The centre operates as a PADI 5-Star IDC, offering a professional environment for both recreational exploration and advanced training. Whether you are looking to take your first breath underwater or are a seasoned technical diver, the facility is geared towards providing consistent, high-standard service in one of the world's most iconic diving destinations.

The centre is run by a team of experienced, certified instructors who prioritise safety and individual attention. By maintaining small dive groups, the staff ensures that every diver receives the necessary guidance, whether you are navigating a complex wreck or practicing buoyancy on a reef slope.

As a PADI 5-Star IDC, the centre is recognised for its commitment to professional development, having received the PADI EMEA Bronze Award for Excellence in Professional Development 2026. This focus on training excellence extends to their wide range of courses, from beginner programmes to advanced specialties.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the entire PADI progression. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the PADI Bubblemaker programme, moving through to Open Water Diver and the subsequent Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses.

For divers looking to refine their skills or specialise, the centre offers a variety of specialties including Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Navigator, Wreck Diver, Drift Diver, and Night Diver. Advanced training options such as PADI Rescue Diver, Search and Recovery, and adaptive techniques are also available to help you progress your diving career.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit, including regulators, BCDs, masks, fins, and wetsuits in both short and long versions. For those requiring larger capacity, 15L cylinders are available.

Nitrox is available for all certified divers, with fills included in the diving packages. The centre also offers daily transfers from hotels in Sharm El Sheikh, which can be used to drop off kit or finalise bookings before heading out to the boats.

The Red Sea's vibrant ecosystem is on full display here, with hard corals (Scleractinia) and soft corals (Alcyonacea) forming the backbone of the reef. You will encounter large schools of fusiliers, snappers, and jacks, alongside colourful reef fish such as butterflyfish, parrotfish, and angelfish (Pomacanthidae).

For those watching the blue, the area is known for pelagic action. You can spot tuna (Thunnus), barracudas (Sphyraena barracuda), and large groupers (Epinephelus). During the summer, grey reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) are frequently seen, and hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna lewini) may also appear.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to explore among the corals and sandy patches. Look for nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), stonefish (Synanceia), and various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris). Garden eels (Gorgasia) can be found swaying in the sand, while blue spotted stingrays (Batoidea) often rest on the seabed.

Large marine life is a regular highlight, including turtles (Cheloniidae), eagle rays (Aetobatus), and occasionally Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus). You may also see various species of sharks, such as whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus) and blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus).

Diving in this region involves a variety of conditions depending on the specific site. Many of the most famous locations, such as the Straits of Tiran and Ras Mohammed, are known for strong currents that make them ideal for drift diving but require a certain level of experience.

While some sites like Eel Garden or Ras Bob offer calm, shallow conditions suitable for beginners, others like Shark Observatory are high-energy environments. The visibility is generally excellent, often reaching between 20 and 30 metres.
