This seafront address is for anyone looking for an island rather than a beach resort. You stay in a villa with the beach directly outside, a garden around you and the option of moving from boat to hammock without changing scenery.

The High Dive Gili Gede works equally well for a couple wanting to slow down and for travellers who have come to explore the area. The routine is straightforward: sea, food, a nap, then back to the terrace as the light fades. No one is promising you a lively nightlife here; the island follows a different rhythm, shaped by the sea.

The hotel is on Gili Gede, in the Sekotong area to the west of Lombok, Indonesia. Gili Gede beach is directly accessible from the property, with a private section of beach and areas set up beside the sea.

From the shore, you look towards Gili Genting and Gili Lontar, while Mount Rinjani appears on Lombok when visibility is clear. Gili Layar is about 1.9 miles away and Gili Rengit about 2.8 miles. Lombok International Airport is around 22.4 miles away, followed by the onward boat connection to the island.

The villas are designed for two people, apart from the Deluxe Villa, which can sleep up to four. For a couple, the Beach Front Villa is the one to choose if you want to start the day looking at the sea rather than the garden. Breakfast is included in the stay and comes in continental, American and Asian versions. You can also request a menu suited to certain dietary requirements, while packed lunches are available for days spent exploring the island or the surrounding area.

A bar completes the restaurant. Barbecue facilities are also available, with arrangements to be made with the hotel. After a dive, your meal is therefore close at hand, without having to search for dinner on an island where restaurants are not found on every corner.

The beach is the main event, and it needs little explanation. Sun loungers, deckchairs, parasols, a sun terrace and beach beds let you choose between full sunlight and shade. The garden and hammocks take over once you have had enough of looking at the sea — which rarely happens, but you can try.

If you want to stay on the water without getting your diving equipment out, the hotel offers snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing. Fishing, boat trips and water sports on site give you other ways to spend a few hours between dives.

You can also book trips to nearby islands or visits around Lombok, including outings focused on local culture. Quieter days end with a board game, a book and a seat facing the water; that is a perfectly reasonable schedule.
