Halik & Deep Halik, Northwest Lombok

Halik & Deep Halik, located off the northwest coast, presents a rich and diverse dive experience. The dive often commences on a shallow sandy plateau, providing a gentle introduction before the topography transforms into a distinct wall. This initial section is adorned with various coral formations, offering a vibrant backdrop to the prolific marine activity.

As you descend, the reef transitions into a colorful wall, continuing into deeper waters. This wall features a variety of coral bommies and prominent gorgonian fans, creating a textured landscape. In these structures, you may spot lionfish and moray eels, often nestled within the reef, alongside camouflaged octopus.

The site deepens into Deep Halik, characterized by prominent coral ridges and winding canyons that extend to depths of up to 27 metres. These deeper sections showcase pristine coral growth and larger sponge formations, particularly vibrant in the well-lit upper zones. Here, various groupers and batfish often school around pronounced coral structures.

Throughout the dive, particularly in the shallower parts, green turtles and hawksbill turtles are regular inhabitants, either grazing on the reef or resting among the corals. Look for clownfish tending to their anemones and bumphead parrotfish traversing the reef, adding bursts of color with their presence.

The canyons and ridges of Deep Halik offer opportunities to encounter larger pelagic species. Reef sharks often patrol these deeper zones, alongside eagle rays moving gracefully through the water. Large trevally can also be seen navigating the open water sections, adding a dynamic element to the dive experience.
