Kubuku Eco Dive Lodge and Yoga

Kubuku Eco Dive Lodge and Yoga is an eco-lodge in Pemuteran, built around tropical gardens rather than the polished sameness of a large resort. You get a restaurant, a bar, a spa and plenty of outdoor space, with the sea and local diving within easy reach. It is the sort of base that suits divers who want somewhere to eat, sleep and decompress without turning every evening into a formal occasion.

The atmosphere also leaves room for something beyond the dive-and-dinner routine. Daily afternoon tea gives you a small landing point between the water and the evening, while a complimentary cultural class adds a distinctly local thread when the schedule allows. Families are catered for, but couples get useful touches too: soundproof rooms, room service and a setting where you can sit outside without having to make a production of relaxing.

There is no hotel dive centre here, so you choose the lodge for its garden setting, food and downtime, then arrange your diving with a nearby operator. That distinction matters if you want the convenience of an on-site centre; it also keeps the lodge from pretending to be something it is not.

You are in Pemuteran, Indonesia, on Bali’s north-west coast. Pemuteran Beach is roughly 300 metres away, close enough for a straightforward walk rather than a daily transport operation. Menjangan’s diving area is described as a ten-minute walk from the lodge, which puts the underwater business firmly into the surrounding landscape rather than behind a resort gate.

The immediate area is practical. Ode Resto and Warung Makan Nengah are about 50 metres away, while Warung Dive Bar is roughly 300 metres from the property. Selini Cafe & Bakery is around half a mile away, giving you an alternative for coffee or a change of scene without planning an expedition.

For land-based days, Pulaki Temple is about 1 mile away and Gunung Bratan around 1 mile from the lodge. West Bali National Park is roughly 7 miles away. The location gives you a useful mix of beach, local restaurants and access to the western Bali countryside, with Lovina around a 1.5-hour drive away.

The room choice is where you can match the lodge to the shape of your trip. Couples can keep things simple with a double room, while the family and quadruple categories give groups more room to spread out than a standard two-person set-up. The Comfort Quadruple Room and Quadruple Room both accommodate four, making them the sensible starting point when wet bags, day clothes and the usual collection of chargers need to coexist without a diplomatic summit.

For a larger group, the Villa with Private Pool is the outlier: a substantial private space with ten bathrooms and room for up to twenty guests. It is less a room than a small operation, suited to a group travelling together rather than a couple looking for somewhere merely to sleep. Families also have access to interconnected rooms, baby safety gates, children’s play areas and a children’s pool.

Air conditioning is available in the rooms, and private en-suite bathrooms come with toiletries, towels, a shower or bath, a hairdryer and bathrobes. Several practical details do their job quietly: wardrobes, a dressing room, an alarm clock, a kettle, a seating or dining area and a desk. Soundproof rooms and soundproofing are particularly welcome when your own body clock is operating on dive-trip time. Balconies, patios or terraces are available among the accommodation facilities, giving you somewhere to sit with a drink while the day’s salt dries off elsewhere.

The restaurant works across Indonesian and European dishes, using organic food and cooking without MSG. That gives you a choice between familiar territory and local flavours without forcing every meal into the category of culinary adventure. Breakfast covers continental and American styles, useful when one diver wants a proper start and another is content with something lighter before getting moving.

There is a bar and a snack bar on site, so you have somewhere to settle with a drink or a smaller bite rather than ordering a full meal every time hunger appears. Coffee and tea are available, as are wine and champagne, while special-diet menus can be arranged. Daily afternoon tea adds another pause to the day, particularly handy when the gap between returning from the water and sitting down to dinner feels longer than it looked on the schedule.

Room service and breakfast in the room are available for the mornings when conversation is overrated or an early start has left you wanting food without the walk to the restaurant. Outdoor dining, outdoor furniture and a garden setting keep meals connected to the climate. BBQ facilities are also available, with the useful caveat that they carry an additional charge.

Yoga is part of the lodge’s identity, with yoga classes and fitness classes available when you want to put your body back in some sort of working order. The spa and wellness facilities offer a relaxation area, steam room, foot bath and open-air bath, alongside treatments including full-body, couples, foot, head, neck and back massages. There is also a massage chair for the shorter version of the same argument.

You can keep the afternoon gentle with a walking tour, a cultural class, cycling or hiking. Bicycle rental and bike tours give you a way to see more of Pemuteran under your own steam, while cooking classes, themed dinner nights, live music and evening entertainment add structure when you have had enough of staring at the ceiling and calling it recovery. Billiards is available on site for a more stationary form of competition.

The lodge also works for mixed groups. There are indoor and outdoor play areas, board games, a children’s playground, a kid-friendly buffet and children’s meals. Babysitting and child services are available, and pets can stay on request. For a diver travelling with a non-diving partner or family, that range matters: not everyone needs to spend the whole day discussing visibility.

Ngurah Rai International Airport is about a five-hour drive from the lodge, and an airport shuttle is available. Banyuwangi International Airport is roughly 37 miles away, with a drive of about 1 hour 37 minutes. The long road transfer is part of the geography here, so it is worth arranging your arrival transport with the lodge rather than treating it as an afterthought. Car hire is also available if you want to explore beyond Pemuteran.

Check-in starts from 14:00 and check-out runs until 12:00. A 24-hour front desk, private and express check-in or check-out, luggage storage, concierge service, a tour desk, currency exchange and an ATM keep the administrative side reasonably contained. Free public parking is available on site, with no reservation needed, and Wi-Fi is free in the rooms.

Cash is accepted for payment. Laundry, ironing and dry-cleaning services are available, while packed lunches and grocery deliveries can help when a day out makes a restaurant return inconvenient. Children of any age are welcome; children aged six and over are charged as adults, and cots or extra beds can be requested subject to availability. The lodge is non-smoking throughout, with designated smoking areas, and the entire unit is located on the ground floor and wheelchair accessible.
