Jamahkiri Diving Club

Located in Surat Thani, Jamahkiri Diving Club operates from a private pontoon in Shark Bay, providing a seamless transition from the shore to the water. The centre is closely associated with the Jamahkiri Resort & Spa, allowing for a streamlined experience between your accommodation and the dive boat.

The centre operates with a focus on personalised attention, maintaining a strict ratio of two students per instructor for all private courses. For fun dives, groups are limited to a maximum of four divers per guide, ensuring that even in busier periods, the focus remains on safety and dive quality.

As an SSI affiliate, the centre provides a comprehensive range of training from entry-level to professional grades. You can begin with the Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver courses, progressing through Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver certifications.

The curriculum extends into specialised skills, including Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Nitrox, and Night Diver. For those looking to refine their technique, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Navigator, and Self Reliant Diver courses are offered, alongside technical paths like the DPV Diver programme.

The fleet consists of two specialised vessels. The Junk serves as the primary dive boat, capable of carrying 15 passengers, though capacity is restricted to 8 divers plus instructors to ensure comfort and space on deck. For quicker transit or specific site access, the Zodiac is available, powered by a 150 horsepower Yamaha engine and carrying 2 guests.

During boat excursions, the centre provides water, snacks, and fruit. The boats are used for a variety of trips, including day dives, night dives, and special excursions to major sites like Sail Rock.

The centre maintains a high standard of kit, with Apeks US4/AT20 regulators and Aqualung Pro HD BCDs available for hire. For those who prefer to use their own equipment, a discount is applied to the standard fun dive packages.

On-site facilities include a swimming pool dedicated to skill practice and training. Nitrox is available for all divers looking to extend their bottom times, and larger capacity cylinders can be requested for hire.

The local waters are home to a variety of pelagics and reef inhabitants. You can regularly encounter whale sharks, southern stingrays, and great barracuda cruising through the area.

The reef ecosystems support a high density of marine life, including various species of turtles, batfish, moray eels, and an abundance of reef fish. Hard corals provide the structural foundation for these vibrant communities.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants are also present, including various species of reef fish that inhabit the coral structures and crevices throughout the bays and around the pinnacles.

The diving environment in the Gulf of Thailand is characterised by tropical waters, with temperatures typically around 29°C. Divers should be prepared for various conditions depending on the specific site, from the sheltered bays like Mango Bay to the more exposed pinnacles.
