Eleuthera Plongée Tahiti

Eleuthera Plongée Tahiti is an established dive centre situated in the Marina Taina, Punaauia. With 30 years of experience in the region, the centre has become a central hub for divers looking to explore the varied underwater topography of French Polynesia, from shallow reef flats to deep ocean walls.

The centre operates seven days a week, providing access to more than 30 different dive sites. Whether you are looking for a relaxed drift dive in the lagoon or a more technical descent along a canyon, the daily schedule allows for multiple departures, including dedicated slots for night diving.

The team is composed of 12 professional instructors and guides, ensuring a high level of expertise across various disciplines. They are affiliated with multiple major organisations, including PADI, FFESSM, CMAS, and IANTD, allowing them to cater to a wide range of certification requirements.

Instruction is available in both French and English. The centre is also well-equipped to handle younger divers, offering specific programmes for children starting from the age of 5. For those looking to advance their careers, the centre serves as an IDC centre, providing training up to the level of Assistant Instructor and Divemaster.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the full spectrum of recreational and professional diving. You can begin with the PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver courses, moving through to Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver. Specialty training is also available for those looking to hone specific skills, such as PADI Deep Diver, PADI Wreck Diver, and PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy.

For professional aspirants, the centre offers pathways through the Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and even Dive Leader levels. They also provide specialised training in underwater photography and freediving. For those following the French system, certifications such as Level 3*** and the Seahorse series (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) are available.

The centre maintains a full range of Aqualung® equipment for hire, including wetsuits in various sizes, masks, fins, and regulators. For those who prefer to bring their own kit, the centre also offers a shop for sales and equipment servicing.

Safety is a priority on-site, with oxygen therapy equipment and an AED (defibrillator) available at the centre. For divers using mixed gases, Nitrox and Trimix are both supported. The aluminium cylinders provided are compensated and compatible with both DIN and INT valves.

The marine life in this part of Tahiti is diverse, with sharks and turtles being regular visitors to the reef. During the months of July to November, you may also encounter Humpback whales passing through the area.

The hard and soft corals provide a vibrant backdrop for much of the local fauna. You will find various species of gorgonians and sponges decorating the walls and canyons, creating complex habitats for smaller inhabitants.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe among the crevices and reef structures. The area is home to various crustaceans and interesting small organisms that inhabit the reef flat and the surrounding slopes.

Diving is possible year-round, with the local waters remaining warm throughout the seasons. The sites vary from protected lagoon areas to more open ocean environments, meaning conditions can change depending on the specific site and the daily swell.

Many of the ocean-side sites involve drift diving, where the movement of the current is a key part of the experience. Divers should be prepared for varying levels of water movement when heading out to the canyons or the larger walls.
