Scubamobile Dive Center

Located in the centre of Playa del Carmen, Scubamobile Dive Center has been operating since 2016. The centre is positioned conveniently between 5th Avenue and the beach, providing easy access for those staying in the town centre.

The operation focuses on a personalised service model, prioritising small groups and high-quality instruction. Whether you are looking to explore the local reef flats or venture into the deeper waters of Cozumel, the centre organises trips that cater to a wide range of experience levels.

The team is composed of experienced, certified instructors holding PADI, SSI, and Full Cave qualifications. Their background in the region ensures they can guide divers through the specific nuances of Caribbean reef diving and the unique requirements of cenote exploration.

As an official Instructor Training Facility for SSI, the centre is a hub for professional development. They regularly host professional-level courses and SSI Open Water Instructor crossover programmes, making it a destination for those looking to advance their careers.

To ensure safety and a high standard of instruction, the centre maintains a ratio of maximum four divers per guide. This allows for close supervision and a more attentive learning environment, particularly during technical or skill-heavy training sessions.

Scubamobile Dive Center offers a comprehensive range of training through both PADI and SSI. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or progress through Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications.

For those looking to refine their skills, specialized courses are available including Perfect Buoyancy, Peak Buoyancy, Deep Diver, and specialty training in Photo and Video. They also offer ecology-focused courses such as Shark Ecology and Marine Ecology.

Professional training is a core part of their curriculum, with paths leading through Divemaster and up to SSI Open Water Instructor programmes. They also provide essential safety training such as React Right - CPR & First Aid and Emergency First Response.

The centre provides full equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit, including masks, snorkels, fins, and wetsuits. For those requiring a complete setup, full rental packages are available.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time. The centre also maintains oxygen safety equipment on-site to ensure standard safety protocols are met for all excursions.

The local reefs are home to a diverse array of marine life, including various species of Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), Parrotfish (Calotomus), and Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae). You will frequently encounter sea turtles (Cheloniidae), stingrays (Batoidea), and large schools of reef fish.

Predators are also part of the ecosystem, with sightings of Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) and various sharks (Selachimorpha). Bull sharks can be encountered on sandy bottoms during their seasonal appearance from mid-November to mid-February, while Whale Sharks may be seen during snorkeling trips between June and September.

For those interested in macro life, the area hosts a variety of crustaceans and smaller organisms. Look for Spiny lobster (Palinuridae), Crab (Brachyura), and various species of Shrimp (Caridea), alongside Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) and Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda).

Fixed life adds immense colour to the seascape, with extensive growth of Soft coral (Alcyonacea), hard corals (Scleractinia), sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and various sponges (Porifera). You will also find anemones (Actiniaria) and colourful gorgonians decorating the reef structures.

Diving in the region is possible year-round due to the stable tropical climate. However, divers should be prepared for strong currents when diving the Cozumel reefs or certain advanced sites around Playa del Carmen.

Cenote diving offers a different set of conditions, where the focus is on navigating overhead environments and maintaining precise buoyancy to protect the delicate cave systems.
