Coral Eye is a boutique dive resort on Bangka Island, built around the meeting point between marine discovery and a little well-earned comfort. You stay among 15 villas, tropical vegetation and the beach, with a beach pavilion at the centre of the resort's social life. The atmosphere is shared rather than formal: intimate private tables sit alongside communal ones, and the open kitchen keeps the meal connected to the room around it. You can also retreat to the garden, terrace or private beach when conversation has done its duty.

Your base is in Likupang, Indonesia, on Pulau Bangka in North Sulawesi, between tropical jungle and the sea. The resort sits directly on a white-sand beach, with sun loungers and a beach pavilion, so you do not need a transfer or a timetable to reach the water for a quiet swim or a spell in the shade.

This is an island setting, not a resort strip lined with restaurants. The nearest listed restaurant is 6 miles away, while the nearest listed café is 13 miles away. Full board therefore makes practical sense: you can eat where you are rather than turn the evening into a logistical exercise.

For wider exploring, Toka Rinokroknesakit and Lihunu are each 7 miles away, while Otw To Foxtrot is 10 miles away. Sam Ratulangi Airport is 19 miles from the resort. The combination gives you jungle, mangrove, fishing villages and beaches rather than a town-centre holiday.

The room choice is really about how much space and privacy you want once the day's salt, sun and boat dust have been dealt with. The Superior King or Twin Room suits a couple who want a straightforward base, while the garden-view and sea-view villas give you more room to spread out and settle into the island rhythm. The Two-Bedroom Villa is the practical family choice; the Beachfront Pool Villa is the one for couples who want their own outdoor retreat and direct beach access.

Inside, the villas combine air conditioning with a ceiling fan, high-quality mattresses and cotton sheets. That is the useful combination in a warm destination: cool the room down when you need proper recovery, then let the fan keep the air moving without turning the night into a refrigeration experiment. Selected units have a seating area, giving you somewhere to read, talk or simply sit upright before deciding whether dinner is still possible.

Housekeeping comes twice daily, and WiFi is available throughout the resort. The Beachfront Pool Villa adds a private 6 by 3 metre outdoor pool, a teak terrace and reserved loungers by the beach. For families, babysitting is available, and children can stay in the adult villa arrangements with dedicated family options.

Meals are built into the stay through full board: breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at Coral Eye Restaurant in the beach pavilion. The kitchen works in the open, facing the dining room, while the menu combines Indonesian flavours with Mediterranean cooking in a seasonal fusion style. Local ingredients are used, and the result is intended to feel like home cooking with a more polished finish — useful when you have surfaced with the appetite of a small fishing crew.

You can choose between intimate private tables and shared tables, depending on whether the evening calls for conversation or a little more distance from other people's dive stories. Vegetarian, vegan, allergy-friendly and intolerance-aware meals can be arranged, while the breakfast selection covers continental, Italian, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, Asian, American and buffet formats.

There is one bar, Coral Eye Bar, a lounge serving classic and signature cocktails, local and imported beers, and wines. Drinking water, biscuits, fruit, coffee and tea are available there throughout the day, with an afternoon snack included. There is no room service, so the beach pavilion and bar are where the evening food-and-drink routine happens.

A white-sand beach, loungers, a garden, terraces and an outdoor pool give you several ways to spend an afternoon without turning it into another expedition. The pool belongs to the Beachfront Pool Villa, so it is particularly suited to the couple who wants a private dip close to the sand rather than another communal activity to schedule.

For recovery rather than entertainment, Coral Eye Spa offers traditional massages and natural treatments. The therapist makes the products by hand using natural ingredients, and you can choose between scented oils and locally made pure coconut oil. Full-body, back, neck, head, foot and couples massages are available, along with foot baths and spa packages. The body is allowed to remember that it has done some work.

When you want to leave the lounger, choose a mangrove kayak tour, canoeing, a hike to the fishing village of Lihunu or a walk to panoramic viewpoints. Longer outings reach Tangkoko Batuangus Nature Reserve and the Minahasa Highlands around Tomohon. A library, board games, movie nights, live performances, themed dinners and local-culture tours keep the non-diving options varied without pretending the island is a nightlife destination.

Sam Ratulangi Airport is 19 miles away. An airport transfer is available by arrangement with the resort; it is not included in the stay, so organise it directly with the property before travelling. A shuttle service is also available on request. Private check-in and check-out are offered, and you should give the resort your expected arrival time.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 23:30 and check-out from 07:00 to 10:00. You need photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the minimum age for checking in is 18. Early check-in and late check-out can be requested. Quiet hours run from 13:00 to 15:00, a useful detail if your surface interval involves a nap rather than another conversation about buoyancy.

WiFi is free throughout the resort, laundry is available, packed lunches can be arranged, and special diets can be catered for. Payment is accepted in Indonesian rupiah, euros, US dollars and by credit card. Pets are allowed on request, and children of all ages are welcome, with babysitting available.

Local sourcing is part of the model: materials and products are bought from nearby communities, employment is created locally, and fish is purchased from Bangka Island fishers using a line-fishing method. The resort is also a founding member of the Bangka Conservation Fund, which works against illegal mining, and has supported the No-Trash Triangle initiative since 2018 to improve waste management on Bangka.
