Dialoog Banyuwangi is a modern seaside resort in East Java, built for days divided between the water, a good meal and the occasional burst of curiosity about what lies beyond the beach. You can spend the afternoon doing very little, which is a perfectly respectable activity in its own right.

The mood changes with the hour. You can start with breakfast, move to the infinity pool or the private beach, and finish with a drink beside the water. The spa adds massages, aromatherapy and traditional Indonesian healing techniques when your shoulders have had enough of carrying the week around.

This is also a useful base if your holiday includes more than lying horizontally. The resort arranges excursions ranging from island trips and cultural activities to the Ijen Volcano night hike and journeys into nearby natural areas. You can therefore choose between a proper day out and the radical plan of staying put.

Banyuwangi International Airport is about 11 miles away by road, with a drive of roughly 22 minutes. The Argopuro railway station is about 1.5 miles away by road, while Banyuwangi Baru is about 4 miles away. That makes the resort practical for an arrival by air or rail, although the final approach still belongs to the road rather than your walking boots.

For a change of scene, Boom Beach is about 3.5 miles away by car. Watu Dodol is around 7 miles from the property, and Ijen is about 7 miles away by road in the surrounding area. A few independent places to eat sit close by, including restaurants within a few hundred feet, while Vila So Long is around 1 km away.

The rooms are arranged for two, with king-bed and twin-bed choices in both garden-facing and ocean-facing categories. If you are travelling as a couple and want the sea in your line of sight, the Deluxe Ocean King is the obvious direction. If separate beds matter more than the view, the twin version keeps the decision pleasantly simple.

The Suite is the room to consider when you want more room to spread out, or when a small family is joining the trip. It has a separate bathroom and is the category designed for that extra breathing space. The resort's suites can accommodate small families, while children of any age are welcome; children aged 12 and over count as adults for the hotel's occupancy policy.

Every room has air conditioning, a private balcony and a private bathroom. There is one separate drinking spot: the Beach Bar, beside the pool with an open-air lounge. Casabanyu adds gourmet coffee, mocktails, cocktails and fine wines to its restaurant offer, so you can manage the transition from hungry to comfortably horizontal without changing address.

The main piece of post-water machinery is the 25-metre by 50-metre infinity pool, open from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. It looks towards the beach and ocean and includes a shallow area for younger swimmers. Sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and pool or beach towels are available, leaving you to decide whether the next serious effort is a swim or turning the page of your book.

The spa is open from noon until 10:00 pm, with one double treatment room and two single rooms. Its treatments include massage, aromatherapy and traditional Indonesian spa healing techniques.
