Ocean View Tulamben Dive & Resort

You come here for a straightforward Bali combination: a resort by the sea, a room with somewhere to sit outside, an outdoor pool and a restaurant that keeps things local without abandoning international dishes. Ocean View Tulamben is in Tulamben, rather than the busier Sanur area sometimes used to describe Bali stays, so the setting is geared towards time around the coast and the nearby dive sites.

The atmosphere is practical and easy to read. You can move from your room to the beach, the pool or the restaurant without turning the evening into an expedition. Tropical gardens, ocean views and direct beach access do the visual work; there is no need for a string of grand adjectives.

The resort sits in Tulamben, Bali, directly on the seafront with access to the beach. Tulamben Beach is the obvious stretch of coast for your day, while Baturinggit Beach is around 2.7 miles away by road. Pantai Tulamben, listed as a nearby natural area, is around 0.9 miles away.

You are not cut off from useful local places. Cafés, warungs and small shops are around 200 metres away, and several restaurants are within roughly 300 metres. Bali Est is around 600 metres away, while the more distant cafés and bars require a drive. For a change of scenery, the area also works as a base for temples, water gardens, rice fields, waterfalls and an Amed sunset.

Private balconies give you somewhere to take the air without having to go looking for a terrace. Room views range from gardens to partial or full ocean outlooks, so the view matters when you choose: an ocean-facing option suits a couple who would rather watch the light change over Bali than stare at a corridor wall. The family room is the sensible choice when you need more space for several people, while the standard double or twin room keeps things simpler for two.

Inside, air conditioning and a fan cover the sticky part of the day, and the minibar gives you somewhere for a cold drink when you return tired, salty and ready to stop moving. There is also a television, a safety deposit box, a wardrobe and a kettle. Bathrooms have both a bath and a shower, with towels, toiletries and a hairdryer.

The private balcony, seating area and tiled floor make the rooms usable rather than merely decorative. Daily housekeeping is available, Wi-Fi is free throughout the resort, and room service can bring lunch or dinner upstairs when the prospect of sitting through another meal feels slightly ambitious.

Ocean View Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a semi-covered, open-air setting beside the sea. Breakfast is included and covers continental, Asian and American choices, with service from 7.30am to 10am. That gives you a reasonable start before a morning out, although it is not an early diver’s breakfast.

Lunch and dinner run from 11am until 10pm, so you still have a proper meal available when the day has stretched on. The kitchen works with Balinese and international cooking, using local ingredients and fresh seafood brought in by local fishermen. Balinese dishes, familiar international plates and local variations sit on the same menu; useful if one of you wants something traditional and the other wants something less adventurous.

For a more deliberate evening, you can order a whole grilled fish, local roast duck or Balinese suckling pig in advance. There is one bar, as well as a minibar in the rooms. Room service covers lunch and dinner, with limited hours, and special-diet menus are available on request.

Two outdoor pools give you an alternative to the sea when you want a quiet dip without making another outing of it. A children’s pool is also listed, and pool or beach towels and sun loungers are available. After a long day, that is often enough: water, a chair and no timetable demanding your attention.

For the muscles that have spent the day carrying you around, local Balinese massage is available on your private patio or beside the pool. Treatments include full-body, foot, back, neck, head and hand massage. The setting keeps things informal and close to your room, which is helpful when the idea of travelling elsewhere for a treatment has lost its appeal.

When you want to leave the resort, the tour desk can help arrange outings such as temple visits, water gardens, rice fields, waterfalls, the Gianyar night market and a sunset in Amed. You can also book cooking classes, fishing and boat excursions, while hiking and snorkelling provide other ways to spend time outdoors.

Ngurah Rai International Airport is around 42 miles away, with the journey taking about three hours by car. An airport shuttle and other shuttle services can be arranged through the resort, and car and bicycle rental are available. Free private parking is provided on site, with no reservation needed.

Check-in runs from 2pm to 8pm, and you need to let the resort know your expected arrival time in advance. Check-out is from 7.30am to midday. The tour desk is useful for organising time away from the coast, while daily housekeeping, laundry and a business centre cover the less glamorous but occasionally necessary parts of a longer stay.

Children of any age are welcome. Children aged nine and over are treated as adults, extra beds can be requested, and cots are not available. Upper floors are reached by stairs only. The resort is non-smoking in its rooms, and pets are not allowed.
