The academy is run by PADI instructors with over 30 years of combined experience in the Pattaya diving scene. This local expertise ensures that the team understands the nuances of the regional currents, seasonal shifts, and the specific locations where marine life is most active.

Safety and personal attention are central to their approach, with a maximum ratio of four divers per guide. This small-group structure allows for more controlled dives, particularly when navigating the stronger currents found at sites like Koh Krock or Koh Phai.

Copperband Diving Academy offers a comprehensive PADI curriculum, covering every level from the initial Discover Scuba Diving programme through to professional certifications like Divemaster and the Instructor Development Course (IDC).

The Copperband 1 is a recently renovated dive boat designed for comfort during daily excursions. It serves as the primary platform for trips to the offshore islands, offering a stable base for your dives.

On board, you can find Thai lunches and refreshments, including coffee and cold water, to recharge between dives. The boat is equipped to handle various trip types, including day trips and night dives, and carries Nitrox for divers who require it.

The centre provides a full range of rental equipment for those who do not wish to carry their own kit. This includes high-quality items such as Jet Fins and PSI wetsuits, and divers can choose between a standard BCD or an X-Deep wing depending on their preference.

The reefs are defined by a vibrant array of hard and soft corals, providing a complex habitat for a vast range of species. You will regularly encounter colourful reef fish, including angelfish (Pomacanthidae), parrotfish (Calotomus), and various species of damselfish. Large schools of fish, such as yellowtail fusiliers and jacks (Carangidae), often move through the water columns.

For those interested in larger pelagics, the area hosts sea turtles (Cheloniidae), bamboo sharks (Chiloscyllium), and small blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus). You may also spot rays, including stingrays and blue spotted stingrays, patrolling the sandy patches.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, particularly during the search for nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), decorator crabs, and various species of shrimp (Caridea). Look closely in the crevices for seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), octopus (Octopus vulgaris), and various types of crabs (Brachyura), including spider crabs.

In the deeper or more sheltered areas, you might find moray eels (Muraenidae), pufferfish (Arothron hispidus), and various species of scorpionfish. The biodiversity extends to smaller organisms like pipefish and various invertebrates that inhabit the coral gardens.

Diving in the region is most consistent from November to April during the dry season, when the seas are calmer and visibility is generally better. The months from May to October mark the monsoon season, which can bring more variable maritime conditions.

Currents can vary significantly between sites. Some locations, such as Koh Krock, are known for very rapid currents, while others like the Koh Sak sites may offer more moderate flows. Many of the wreck sites and certain reef walls can provide natural shelter from the surge.
