MT Freediving (école/club d'apnée)

Based in the Hérault department, MT Freediving operates as a nomadic school, bringing professional instruction to the waters of Montpellier, Sète, and Frontignan. This mobile approach allows for training in diverse environments, moving between controlled pool settings and the open sea to suit the specific needs of the session.

Under the direction of Marc Tartenson, a 2018 French Champion, the school focuses on the technical and psychological aspects of apnea. The training is designed to help you navigate mental blocks and develop a deep understanding of your own physiology through structured progression.

The school is led by Marc Tartenson, a highly qualified instructor holding BPJEPS apnea credentials and affiliations with both AIDA and FFESSM. His experience as a former national champion provides a high level of technical expertise for students looking to progress seriously.

The teaching approach is notably multidisciplinary, incorporating psychological techniques such as Elman hypnosis to assist divers in managing aquaphobia and other mental barriers. This professional and supportive environment is designed to facilitate technical growth for all levels of practitioners.

MT Freediving offers a comprehensive range of apnea training, from introductory breath-hold sessions and discovery dives to formal certifications. You can work through various levels of the AIDA curriculum or follow FFESSM pathways to formalise your skills.

The curriculum is structured to support technical progression through dedicated training camps and specific level transitions, ensuring you build a solid foundation in both pool and marine environments.

The Mediterranean waters around Montpellier and Sète host a diverse array of species. You will encounter various groupers (Epinephelinae) and Mediterranean groupers (Epinephelus marginatus) patrolling the seabed, alongside Mediterranean moray eels (Muraenidae) and moray eels.

For those interested in macro life, the area is home to several fascinating species. You can observe the coconut octopus (Octopoda), various species of octopus (Octopoda), and nudibranchs such as Chromodoris willani and purple doris. Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae) and various species of sea bass and European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) are also frequently seen.

Other common residents include the Mediterranean rainbow wrasse (Coris julis), rainbow wrasse, and painted comber (Serranus scriba). You may also spot cuttlefish (Sepiidae), sand gobies, and European spiny lobster (Palinurus elephas) amongst the seagrass and rocky outcrops.
