Blue Magic Scuba

Blue Magic Scuba is situated in the centre of San Miguel de Cozumel, just two blocks from the ferry pier and a short walk from the main terminal. This central location makes it an ideal base for divers arriving by ferry from Playa del Carmen or Tunel.

The centre operates as a PADI 5 Star IDC centre, providing access to the vast coral reef systems that make Cozumel world-renowned. You can expect a focus on small groups and a personalised approach to every dive, ensuring you get the most out of the island's famous currents.

The team consists of experienced Divemasters and Instructors who have logged tens of thousands of dives specifically around the Cozumel reefs. This local expertise is central to their service, helping you navigate the unique topography and currents of the island.

Instruction is handled with a strict ratio of no more than six divers per guide. This ensures safety and allows for a more tailored experience, whether you are completing your first certification or working through professional-level training.

As a 5 Star IDC centre, the range of PADI courses is extensive. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving and progress through the Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses. For those looking to specialise, the centre offers PADI Deep Diver, Drift Diver, and Nitrox specialties.

The professional programme is a core part of the centre's identity, catering to those pursuing Divemaster, Instructor, or Master Scuba Diver Trainer credentials. They also provide EFR Instructor training and Sidemount Diver courses for more technical divers.

The centre operates four fast launchas, each powered by reliable Yamaha engines including 150hp, 200hp, and 250hp 4-stroke models. These boats are designed to reach the reef sites efficiently, providing a stable platform for the drift dives Cozumel is known for.

On board, you will find shaded areas with awnings to protect you from the sun, as well as essential safety equipment including a marine radio, first aid kit, and oxygen. To keep you comfortable during the day, the boats provide bottled water, fresh fruit, and snacks.

A full range of rental kit is available on-site, including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, masks, fins, snorkels, dive computers, and underwater torches for night diving. This allows you to travel light if you prefer not to bring your own heavy equipment.

Safety is a priority with oxygen kits and first aid supplies maintained at the centre. For those staying on-site, the centre also offers accommodation through Blue Magic Suites and the Blue Magic Dive House.

The reefs are home to a vast array of marine life, including large pelagics such as eagle rays, spotted eagle rays, and various shark species including nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum), reef sharks (Carcharhinus), blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), and Caribbean reef sharks (Carcharhinus).

You will frequently encounter turtles, including hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas), and loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). Large schools of fish, including jacks (Carangidae), snappers (Lutjanus), and groupers (Epinephelus), move through the water column alongside barracuda schools.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers plenty of interest with nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and various crustaceans such as spiny lobster (Palinuridae), crabs (Brachyura), and king crabs. You might also spot octopus (Octopus vulgaris), squid (Sepioteuthis sepioidea), and various species of moray eel (Muraenidae).

The reef structure itself is a vibrant landscape of hard corals, brain corals, barrel sponges, sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and various sea rods and sponges, providing a complex habitat for the local inhabitants.

Cozumel is famous for its legendary drift dives. These dives rely on the natural currents that move along the reef, which is why the centre utilises fast launchas to position you at the start of the drift.

Night diving is also a regular part of the programme, allowing you to see the reef transform as nocturnal species emerge.
