Deep Exposure Dive Center

Located in Cozumel, Mexico, Deep Exposure Dive Center operates in one of the world's most renowned diving destinations. The island is famous for its vibrant coral reefs and dramatic walls, offering a unique underwater landscape shaped by the Caribbean Sea.

The centre focuses on a 'Doing It Right' philosophy, ensuring that every diver, whether training for their first certification or progressing through technical stages, receives professional guidance. They provide a structured environment for those looking to explore the famous drift dives and deep walls that define this region.

The team is composed of professional instructors and experienced guides who provide instruction in English and Spanish. They cater to a broad spectrum of divers, from those starting their journey with NAUI or PADI to those pursuing advanced technical training.

Instructional standards are central to their operation, with a strong emphasis on continuous skill improvement and safety. This professional approach extends to their technical programmes, where they support divers through complex decompression and gas management training.

The training programme is extensive, covering recreational, rescue, and professional levels through PADI and NAUI affiliations. You can complete courses ranging from PADI Open Water Diver and NAUI Scuba Diver to PADI Rescue Diver and Divemaster.

For those moving into technical diving, the centre offers a full suite of TDI courses. This includes Intro to Tech, Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, Extended Range, and both Normoxic and Hypoxic Trimix training. They also provide specialised CCR training, covering Air Diluent, Deco Procedures, and Combined Training.

The centre operates two main vessels: the Deep Exposure I, a 40' Conquest powered by twin 315 HP turbo diesel engines, and the Deep Exposure II, a 31' Ocean Master equipped with twin 225 HP Suzuki outboards. Both boats are designed to provide a comfortable platform for Cozumel's drift diving.

On board, you will find amenities including freshwater showers, toilets, and a shaded area for relaxation. The boats are also equipped with a satellite radio for safety and dedicated rinsing stations and tables for camera divers to manage their kit. Fresh, healthy food and drinks are provided during the trips, and the vessels are prepared to handle night dives and technical excursions.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of rental kit for those not travelling with their own. This includes BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, fins, masks, and dive computers. For technical divers, they offer specialised equipment such as backplates, wings, double cylinders, and decompression cylinders.

Shore-based facilities include rinsing stations for all equipment and a dedicated area for camera gear. For rebreather divers, the centre provides CCR rental for a daily fee, which includes oxygen, air diluent, and onboard cylinders, as well as sofrolime availability.

The reefs are teeming with life, including large schools of fish such as Jacks (Carangidae), snappers (Lutjanus), and various grunts. You will regularly see colourful reef inhabitants like parrotfish (Calotomus), angelfish (Pomacanthidae), and butterflyfish (Chaetodon), alongside blue tangs, blue chromis, and schoolmasters.

Large pelagics and predators are a highlight of the area, with sightings of reef sharks (Carcharhinus), blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), and hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna lewini). You may also encounter eagle rays (Aetobatus), southern stingrays (Hypanus americanus), and occasionally bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas) or tiger sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier).

Macro life and smaller residents are abundant, including various octopus (Octopus vulgaris), moray eels (Muraenidae), and scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae). Keep an eye out for seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), and various species of shrimp and crabs.

The seabed and reef structures are decorated with hard corals, brain corals, and black corals, as well as sea fans (Gorgoniidae), sea rods, and giant sponges. You will also find various molluscs and crustaceans, such as spiny lobster (Palinuridae) and conchs, moving amongst the gorgonians and barrel sponges.

Diving in Cozumel is characterised by constant warm currents. These currents are a key feature of the local drift diving, allowing divers to move along the reefs and walls with little to no effort.

The environment is well-suited for both recreational and technical diving, provided you are comfortable with the predictable movement of the water along the reef edges.
