Dive In Alor

Located in the village of Alor Besar, Dive In Alor serves as a dedicated base for exploring the eastern Indonesian archipelago. As the first SSI dive centre in the Alor region, it offers a specialised environment for those looking to dive the reefs and currents of this volcanic island chain.

The resort is positioned approximately 45 minutes by road from Alor Mali airport, accessible via flights through Kupang. It combines a quiet, residential atmosphere with direct access to the local marine environment, making it a focused destination for serious divers.

The team is composed of local professionals and passionate divers who focus on a personalised experience. By maintaining a strict ratio of maximum four divers per guide, the centre ensures that every dive is managed with a high level of attention to safety and individual diver needs.

All instruction and dive guidance are conducted in English. The centre operates as an SSI dive resort, providing a structured and professional environment for both recreational exploration and formal training.

As an SSI affiliated centre, Dive In Alor offers a full range of training programmes. This includes everything from initial certifications through to advanced levels, allowing divers to progress their skills within the SSI system.

The centre provides full equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit. For those bringing their own cylinders, the centre uses aluminium cylinders equipped with convertible DIN/INT valves to suit various regulator types.

On-site facilities include safety equipment such as oxygen for emergency use. To assist underwater photographers, the team provides water-filled containers on board to help protect camera gear during transit.

The marine life in Alor is defined by its incredible biodiversity, ranging from expansive coral gardens to high-energy reef environments. You can expect to encounter various shark species and larger pelagics patrolling the deeper sections of the reefs.

For macro enthusiasts, the area is a significant draw. The reefs host a diverse array of smaller organisms, including various species of octopus and other invertebrates that thrive in the complex coral structures.

The reef architecture itself provides a vibrant backdrop, with healthy coral colonies supporting a wide variety of resident fish species.

Diving in Alor is subject to varying conditions depending on the tide, the time of day, and the specific location of the dive. Currents can range from light drifts to much stronger flows, particularly around certain reef edges and channels.

The best time to visit the region is between mid-March and mid-December. Outside of this window, the local weather and marine conditions can become unpredictable.
