Siddhartha Oceanfront Resort & Spa is a 32-room resort in Kubu, built for days that move between the water, the pool and the spa rather than between traffic jams and shopping centres. The grounds cover 2.4 hectares beside the sea, with bungalows and private-pool villas arranged among existing trees, traditional Balinese rooflines and open spaces facing the coast.

You will be understood in English and German by the hotel team, with German also spoken by the management. The atmosphere is shaped by the village setting and the resort’s Balinese approach to living alongside nature and spirituality. That gives the place a clear character: this is a shore-based diving resort with proper room to slow down, not a town hotel with a dive centre added as an afterthought.

The resort sits in Kubu, in the Tulamben area of Karangasem, on Bali’s north-east coast. You have direct access to the shoreline, where the beach is made of black volcanic sand, while the surrounding landscape runs from coastal gardens towards jungle and Mount Agung. The sea is part of the address, not a distant view on a brochure.

Tulamben Beach is about 2.3 miles away by road, and Baturinggit Beach is about 1 mile away. Warung Krisna is around 2,200 feet away by road, with Warung Sari and Relax B Li Rezidence each about 0.9 miles away. The resort is therefore well placed for a quiet base, with a few local places to eat within reach, but you are not booking a hotel in the middle of a busy town.

Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 59 miles away by road, with a driving time of roughly 1 hour 36 minutes. That is the sort of transfer where arranging the arrival properly matters; the resort offers an airport shuttle.

The choice is mainly about how much space and privacy you want once the wetsuit is hung up. Superior Bungalows suit two people travelling light, while the Deluxe Bungalow is the more practical step up for three or for a couple who dislike negotiating luggage around the bed. The Deluxe Bungalow with Sea View is the one to consider when looking out towards the water matters more than keeping the room category simple.

For families or a small group, the private-pool villa changes the scale of the stay entirely, with room for up to five people and two bathrooms. It is also the only accommodation option with a proper fridge. The bungalows have minibar fridges instead, so you can keep a few drinks cool, but not stock up as if you were provisioning a liveaboard.

Every bungalow and villa is air-conditioned and has a ceiling fan, a personal safe and a terrace overlooking the garden. The ensuite bathroom has a walk-in shower, bathrobes, slippers, a hairdryer and toiletries. After warm salt water and a long surface interval, the useful combination is simple: cool air, somewhere to sit outside, and a private bathroom that does not require a trek across the resort.

The Siddhartha Open-Air Restaurant handles breakfast, lunch and dinner in an airy setting with garden views and glimpses of the ocean. Breakfast is included, and the kitchen works across international cooking with Indonesian dishes and European options, so you can keep things familiar or eat in the local direction without turning every meal into a culinary expedition.

There is one bar: the Oceanfront Swimming Pool & Bar. It serves snacks and drinks throughout the day, which is handy when lunch feels too ambitious but a plate beside the pool does not. The house detail is a Piña Colada at sunset, with Mount Agung providing the backdrop; even the most disciplined diver is allowed one slightly tropical decision.

The restaurant is also planning to bring produce from the resort’s vegetable garden into its menu. With the restaurant, pool bar and minibar fridges in the accommodation, you have the basics covered on site, while several local restaurants are available by road nearby.

The oceanfront infinity pool is the obvious place to spend a non-diving hour, with a large sun terrace, loungers, umbrellas and a pool bar close at hand. There are three pools across the resort, including private outdoor pools for the villas. Direct beach access gives you another place to sit with a book, although the black volcanic sand is a reminder that this is Bali’s working coastline rather than a pale Caribbean postcard.

The Six Elements Spa offers massages, facials, body treatments, scrubs and hot-stone treatments. Its treatment rooms sit among landscaped gardens, and the spa includes a lava-stone cave used for the signature hot-stone treatment. For couples, the double treatment room makes the spa a practical shared activity rather than a polite wait while one person disappears for an hour.

The fitness centre includes an elliptical trainer, treadmill, stationary bike, weights and rowing machine. Daily yoga classes take place in the open-air oceanfront studio, with mats and blocks available; class times vary and the weekly schedule is available on arrival. When you have had enough of organised movement, the games room has billiards, darts and table tennis, while hiking, cultural tours and Balinese ceremonies offer reasons to leave the sun lounger.

Check-in starts at 14:00 and check-out runs until 12:00. You need photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the resort asks you to share your expected arrival time in advance. The minimum age for check-in is 18, while children over 10 are welcome; extra beds can be requested, subject to the accommodation option, and there are no cots.

Airport transfers and shuttle services are available through the resort. Free WiFi covers the property, private parking is available on site, and a tour desk can help arrange travel and activities. Laundry and ironing services are available, and the resort has a gift shop and meeting facilities.

The layout deserves a straightforward warning: stairs, uneven paths and changes in level mean that the resort is not fully accessible. A doctor can be arranged on request, and diving medical support includes access to a recompression chamber at Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar.

The resort’s environmental work is tied directly to the water in front of it. The Kubu Marine Park is a reef restoration project and house dive site, with an artificial reef that uses recycled materials. The grounds retain as many original trees as possible, and the resort works with the local community on environmental awareness.

Day-to-day measures include waste management, recycling, composting food and garden waste, a kitchen garden and no single-use plastic on site. You can refill reusable water bottles free of charge. It is a practical approach: less disposable material around the resort, more attention to the reef that sits directly offshore.
