Le Poseidon

Le Poseidon is a PADI affiliated dive centre situated at Quai Lunel in the Port of Nice. It serves as a gateway to the Mediterranean, specifically focusing on the highly regarded diving within the Villefranche Bay.

The centre operates during the seasonal window from May to October, with daily departures scheduled for 9am and 2pm. Most dive sites are reached within a 15-minute boat trip, making it an efficient base for those looking to maximise their time in the water.

The centre provides a range of PADI training programmes and guided adventures. For those looking to start their journey, they offer Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver courses, while more experienced divers can progress through Advanced OWD, Rescue Diver, and Enriched Air Nitrox Diver certifications.

Safety is a primary focus, and the centre requires a medical certificate for all certification courses and for autonomous divers at the Rescue Diver level or above. For those looking to try diving for the first time via a discovery dive, a medical certificate is not required.

The centre offers a comprehensive suite of PADI courses. Beginners can start with Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver training.

For those looking to expand their skill set, the curriculum includes Advanced OWD, Rescue Diver, and the Enriched Air Nitrox Diver course.

A full range of equipment is available for hire on-site, including regulators, BCDs, and wetsuits. Divers requiring a dive computer can also rent one from the centre.

For those who prefer to bring their own kit, the centre can provide cylinders and weights. Enriched Air Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time.

The Villefranche Bay offers a diverse range of marine life. You can regularly encounter common dentex (Dentex dentex), groupers (Epinephelus), and various species of moray eel (Muraenidae) or conger eel (Congridae) amongst the rocks and ledges.

In the more open areas, schools of fish move through the water column, often accompanied by larger predators like brown meagre. You may also spot lobsters (Homaridae) tucked into crevices.

The seabed is decorated with various forms of fixed life, including sea fans (Gorgoniidae) and other corals that provide habitat for the local ecosystem. Octopuses are also a frequent sight for divers exploring the reef structures.

The diving in this area is centred around the Villefranche Bay, which is known for providing excellent visibility regardless of the weather conditions.
