Kura Kura Divers Lodge

English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside French, Dutch, Chinese, Indonesian and German. That matters when you are arriving tired, organising the next day or simply trying to explain what you would like for dinner.

Opened in 2020, this is a 16-room lodge in Amed rather than a grand hotel built for staying indoors. The mood is easy-going and practical: a garden, balconies and terraces, a swimming pool, and the Kura Bar for food, drinks, billiards or a film. You can keep things quiet when you want to, then join the social side without having to go looking for it.

Jalan I Ketut Natih puts you in Amed, Bali, with the sea around 80 metres away. Amed Beach is close enough for a quick walk, while Jemeluk Beach is roughly 0.7 miles away and Lipah Beach about 3 miles away. Tulamben is around 12 miles from the lodge, making it reachable for a day beyond Amed.

The centre of Amed is about five minutes on foot. Restaurants such as Warung Happy, Warung Nikmat and Warung Santa Fe Amed are nearby, while Arya Coffee Shop and Tong Tji give you other options when coffee is the only sensible plan. Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 56 miles away by road, with the journey taking around one hour and 25 minutes by car.

The rooms are set up for straightforward recovery rather than theatrical hotel living. Air conditioning takes the edge off the heat, while a private bathroom, free WiFi, a desk and a minibar cover the useful basics. Each room has a private balcony or terrace with a day bed, plus either a garden or pool view. After a long day, that outdoor seat is a respectable place to do absolutely nothing.

For couples, the double room with its king-size bed is the natural choice. The twin room suits two friends who prefer separate beds, with no nightly negotiation required. Interconnected rooms are available, which gives families a more workable arrangement, and cots can be requested for young children. There are no extra beds.

The rooms also include a kettle, wardrobe, clothes rack and drying rack for clothing. Upper-floor rooms are reached by stairs only. The made-to-measure mattresses and higher-quality bedding are a useful detail when your shoulders have had enough of the day, while the balcony gives you somewhere to sit before the air conditioning wins the argument.

The Kura Bar is the lodge's single restaurant and bar, so you do not need to make a production of dinner. Its menu moves between Asian, Indonesian and European dishes, with comfort food and pizzas in the mix. The approach is relaxed rather than formal, which is exactly what most divers want when the appetite arrives before the conversation.

There is one bar, also called Kura Bar, with a selection of beers including craft beers. Pizza is a central part of the menu, alongside the broader international offer. Special-diet menus are available on request.

The evening can carry on around the same table: board games, billiards, live sports broadcasts and film nights are all part of the bar's programme. Music playlists change from day to day and cover different styles, continents and eras. Breakfast arrangements and a board basis are not part of the lodge's listed offer, so the attraction here is the flexible bar-and-restaurant setup rather than a packaged meal plan.

The outdoor swimming pool is 2.6 metres deep and has space around it for sun loungers, drinks and a proper cooldown. It is also a diving pool, so it is more useful than the average decorative rectangle when you want to work on skills or simply get back in the water without going anywhere. Pool and beach towels are available.

For a slower afternoon, the garden, sun terrace, patio and outdoor furniture give you several places to sit. The lodge also puts the entertainment in one convenient corner: billiards, board games, live sports and film nights at the Kura Bar. No timetable is needed for the principal activity here. Find a chair, order something cold and let the day become less organised.

The beach is around 80 metres away, and snorkelling is available off site. The nearby area also gives you beaches, coastal viewpoints and places such as Tirta Gangga Water Palace for a non-diving outing. The lodge itself keeps the choice uncomplicated: pool, garden, beach and a bar with enough going on to prevent the evening becoming an early bedtime by accident.

Check-in runs from 13:00 to 22:00, and check-out from 07:00 to 12:00. Private and express check-in and check-out are available, with luggage storage for the awkward gap between leaving the room and leaving Amed. There is no age requirement for check-in, and children of all ages are welcome; children aged nine and over are treated as adults for occupancy purposes.

An airport shuttle is available from Ngurah Rai International Airport. It is arranged through the lodge and the journey is by road, so it makes sense for anyone who would rather arrive at the front door than negotiate the transfer after a long flight. A tour desk is also available for organising time away from the lodge.

WiFi is free throughout the property. On-site public parking is free and does not require a reservation. Pets are welcome on request, with no additional charge. Rooms are non-smoking, and universal sockets are available. The practical caveat is upstairs access: upper floors are reached by stairs only.

Solar hot water is part of the lodge's operation, a modest but practical measure in a place where showers after a day outside are not optional. The business also places emphasis on legal employment, appropriate work permits for expatriate staff and fair, decent wages for the team.

There is no named environmental certification attached to the lodge. The useful takeaway is therefore concrete rather than decorative: solar hot water and stated employment practices, without dressing them up as a larger promise.
