OUSIA Freediving Academy

Located in Pemuteran in North-West Bali, Ousia Freediving Academy provides a dedicated environment for those looking to master the art of breath-hold diving. The academy is situated at the Kuda Laut Bungalows & Diving, offering a settled base for your training in the region.

The area is characterised by its calm, protected waters, providing the ideal conditions for both fundamental skill acquisition and advanced depth progression. Whether you are working on your relaxation techniques or pushing your limits, the local topography supports a wide range of training objectives.

The academy is led by an AIDA Instructor Trainer, ensuring that the instruction meets high professional standards. The teaching philosophy prioritises a deep understanding of the discipline, focusing on the fundamentals of technique and physiological relaxation to achieve depth naturally.

Training is highly personalised, with a focus on longer sessions than the industry average to ensure students fully integrate new skills. All instruction and communication are conducted in English.

The academy offers a comprehensive range of AIDA training programmes. You can begin with beginner courses to establish your foundation before progressing through advanced and master-level certifications.

For those looking to turn their passion into a profession, the academy provides instructor courses. They also offer specialised training and coaching sessions, as well as crossover evaluations for divers moving between different training disciplines.

The reefs around Menjangan Island and Pemuteran are rich with hard and soft coral structures. You will find vibrant displays of soft corals, table corals, and leather corals, alongside various sponges and flame scallops that provide a complex habitat for reef life.

In the water column and around the reef, you can encounter schools of fish including fusiliers (Caesio), anthias (Anthias), and various species of damselfish (Pomacentridae). Larger pelagics and reef residents such as jacks (Carangidae), tuna (Thunnus), and surgeonfish (Acanthuridae) are common, as are butterflyfish (Chaetodon), angelfish (Pomacanthidae), and parrotfish (Calotomus).

The area is also home to various predators and larger reef inhabitants, including whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), reef sharks (Carcharhinus), and eagle rays (Aetobatus). You may also spot turtles, sweetlips (Plectorhinchus), batfish (Platax), and various species of clownfish (Amphiprion) amongst the anemones.

For macro enthusiasts, the biodiversity is significant. Look for nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae), seahorses (Hippocampus), and various species of shrimp (Caridea). The sandy areas and reef crevices also host octopus (Octopoda), cuttlefish (Sepiidae), frogfish (Antennariidae), and various scorpionfish (Scorpaena), alongside garden eels (Gorgasia) and ribbon eels (Rhinomuraena quaesita).

The waters in Pemuteran are known for being calm with low currents, making the bay a stable environment for training. This lack of heavy surge or strong flow is particularly beneficial for freedivers focusing on buoyancy control and relaxation.
