Pemuteran - Karang Divers

Located in the quiet Pemuteran Bay on the north-west coast of Bali, Karang Divers serves as a gateway to some of the most diverse underwater terrain in Indonesia. The centre is deeply integrated into the local environment, leading the Agung Prana Reef restoration project and acting as a local organiser for the 2026 CMAS World Underwater Video and Photo Championship.

Whether you are looking to explore the deep walls of Menjangan Island or prefer the convenience of shore dives on the local Biorock structures, the centre provides a professional base for your stay. They work in close cooperation with several beachfront resorts in the bay, offering a seamless connection between your accommodation and the dive boat.

The team is composed of over 30 local professionals, including experienced instructors, divemasters, and a dedicated conservation team. This large staff ensures that even during busy periods, the focus remains on personalised service and safety.

Instruction is delivered in several languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Indonesian. To maintain high standards of safety and attention, the centre operates with a strict ratio of one guide for every four divers.

Beyond the dive desk, the team includes specialised boat crews and reception staff, all of whom are part of a community-focused operation. Their commitment to the ocean is evident in their daily work, particularly through their involvement in marine restoration and ethical dolphin watching tours led by a marine biologist.

Karang Divers is an SSI and PADI affiliated centre, offering a comprehensive range of training from the initial Discover Scuba Diving experience through to professional levels. You can complete your Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, or Divemaster certifications here.

For those looking to specialise, the centre provides several PADI and SSI specialty courses, including Nitrox, Deep Diver, and Underwater Navigation. They also offer React Right training and Scuba Skills Update programmes for divers looking to refresh their abilities.

The centre utilises a traditional phinisi schooner for trips to Menjangan Island, which can accommodate up to 12 guests. This vessel is powered by a four-stroke engine and provides a stable platform for exploring the north-west reefs.

On these trips, you will be looked after with water, snacks, and a delicious lunch provided on board. For those joining the early morning dolphin tours, breakfast is also included. Nitrox is available for those who require it during their excursions.

For shore-based diving, the centre offers full equipment hire, including regulators, BCDs, and fins. If you prefer to bring your own mask and snorkel, these can be hired separately. Wetsuits are also available for hire in both short and long versions.

Safety and air quality are priorities on site, as the centre is a certified BAUER PureAir Station. This ensures that the air you breathe from your cylinder meets high standards of purity.

The walls of Menjangan and the local reefs are home to a vast array of pelagics and reef fish. You will regularly encounter reef sharks (Carcharhinus), eagle rays (Aetobatus), and various species of turtles. During the months of June to September, manta rays are more likely to be seen in the area.

In the deeper sections of the walls, such as Pos 2, you may spot larger pelagics passing through the water column. The reefs are also teeming with life including parrotfish (Calotomus), butterflyfish (Chaetodon), surgeonfish (Acanthuridae), and various species of anthias (Anthias), alongside schools of jack (Carangidae) and fusilier (Caesio).

For macro enthusiasts, the area is exceptional. You can find a wealth of nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and various species of shrimp (Caridea) tucked into the coral. Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), frogfish (Antennarius), and scorpionfish are also common residents of the crevices and reef flats.

The Biorock restoration sites in Pemuteran Bay provide a unique habitat for many creatures, including lobsters (Homaridae), garden eels (Gorgasia), and various species of moray eels.

The diving in Pemuteran is generally characterised by calm, sheltered conditions within the bay, making it an ideal location for shore diving and night dives. Menjanagan Island is also known for its relatively calm waters.

While many sites experience low currents, some locations like Pos 2 can encounter moderate to strong currents, which is why it is designated for advanced divers. The best period for visiting the region is from April to November, when visibility is at its peak.
