Cap Ferrat Diving

Located on the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula, just a short distance from Nice and Monaco, Cap Ferrat Diving has been a fixture of the local diving community since 1999. The centre is positioned perfectly to access some of the most diverse marine environments on the Côte d'Azur, from deep wrecks to protected natural reserves.

Operating as a PADI 5 Star IDC centre, the shop provides a professional base for both recreational divers and those pursuing a career in instruction. Whether you are looking for a single exploration dive or a structured training programme, the facility is designed to support divers of all levels within the Natura 2000 protected zone.

Founded by Olivier, the team brings over two decades of experience to the Mediterranean waters. As an Instructor Development Centre (IDC), they are specifically equipped to train the next generation of PADI professionals, offering courses ranging from Divemaster to Open Water Scuba Instructor.

The centre is bilingual, with instruction and communication available in both French and English. For younger divers, the team organises afternoon programmes during the summer months, using age-appropriate pedagogy and equipment to introduce children to the underwater world.

Beyond training, the centre is committed to environmental stewardship, operating within the Natura 2000 Cap Ferrat zone. This focus on preservation is reflected in how they manage their local dive sites and interact with the marine ecosystem.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the entire PADI progression. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Scuba Diver course, moving through to Open Water Diver, Adventure Diver, and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For those looking to deepen their skills or specialise, the centre offers PADI specialty courses including Nitrox Diver, Deep Diver, Dry Suit, and Underwater Photographer. They also provide buoyancy improvement sessions and Rescue Diver training.

Professional candidates can utilise the centre's IDC status to complete their path to Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or Open Water Scuba Instructor. For those requiring additional preparation, specific IDC preparation modules are available.

The centre operates two distinct vessels to suit different diving needs. The Corto is a traditional wooden boat, reconditioned specifically for diving, providing a classic experience on the water.

For more private excursions or specific requirements, they utilise the Maltese, a 7m75 Capelli Tempest semi-rigid. Both boats allow you to explore the local coastline and reach the more significant sites in the region.

As a PADI 5 Star centre and an Aqualung partner, the shop maintains a comprehensive range of equipment for sale and hire. If you are travelling light, you can rent full kit, though they specifically offer mask, snorkel, and fins for those who prefer to use their own BCD and regulator.

A significant advantage for technical or experienced divers is the on-site workshop. The team provides maintenance and repair services for cylinders, regulators, BCDs, and dive computers, both in-store and via a mobile service. Nitrox is available on-site, alongside standard air fills.

The Mediterranean habitats around Cap Ferrat are rich with life. On the rocky formations and reefs, you will encounter large groupers (Epinephelus), barracuda, and common dentex (Dentex dentex). The walls and crevices are often home to moray eels (Muraenidae), octopuses, and spiny lobsters (Homaridae).

For those interested in macro life, the seabed and gorgonians host a variety of nudibranchs and various species of sponges. You can also observe sea fans (Gorgoniidae), anemones, and various types of sea urchins amongst the seagrass meadows.

In the open water and around the wrecks, schools of fish including salema porgy, amberjack, and various wrasses are common. Seasonal visitors may include southern stingrays, mobula rays, and occasionally common bottlenose dolphins.

The best window for diving in this region is between April and October, with September often providing particularly good conditions. The centre operates with different schedules depending on the season, with morning and afternoon departures available during the warmer months.

While the area is subject to Mediterranean conditions, the proximity to protected zones like Port Cros helps provide diverse environments ranging from sheltered reefs to more exposed sites.
