Ileo Porquerolles

Located on the island of Porquerolles, Iléo Porquerolles serves as a central hub for divers looking to explore the highly diverse marine ecosystems of the Hyères archipelago. Its position allows for immediate access to the protected waters of the Port-Cros National Park, renowned for its clarity and biological richness.

The centre is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the varied topography of the area, from the sheltered rocky reefs to the deeper walls and historic wrecks. The centre provides a full progression of FFESSM training, ranging from the initial Niveau 1 through to the instructor-level MF1. This structured pathway is ideal for divers following the French certification system.

Specific course requirements are clearly defined: the Niveau 1 requires a minimum of three days with six practical sessions, while the Niveau 2 involves ten practical sessions and four theoretical sessions over at least six days. The Niveau 3 follows a similar intensive structure, with an additional session required for those not holding the RIFA qualification.

The fleet consists of three semi-rigid boats, each with a capacity of 19 places. These vessels are designed for quick transit to the dive sites, ensuring you spend more time in the water and less time on the surface.

The rocky reefs and drop-offs are home to a wide array of life, including various species of wrasses, such as the peacock wrasse, and the painted comber. You will often encounter groupers (Epinephelus) and dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) amongst the ledges, alongside schools of sea bream (Sparidae) and common dentex (Dentex dentex).

Macro life is abundant for those who enjoy searching the seabed. You can find several species of nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), octopuses, and various crustaceans, including spiny lobster (Palinuridae) and shrimp (Caridea). Scorpionfish and red scorpionfish (Scorpaena scrofa) are frequently found camouflaged against the rocks.

The underwater scenery is defined by a rich collection of fixed life, including red gorgonians, sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and various sponges (Porifera). Yellow encrusting anemones and other sea anemones (Actiniaria) add vibrant colour to the reef flats and rock faces.

The dive sites around Porquerolles are selected for their accessibility; many are sheltered by the island itself, making them reachable even when winds are blowing from the East. Sites like the Pointe d'Escampobariou offer protection from westerly winds.
