Bali Ocean Reef

Bali Ocean Reef is situated in the tranquil coastal area of Pemuteran, Bali. This location provides a gateway to some of the region's most diverse underwater environments, from the sheltered reef flats of the local coastline to the dramatic drop-offs of Menjangan Island.

The centre is deeply integrated into the local marine landscape, specifically through its involvement with the Biorock coral restoration project. This initiative uses underwater structures to support reef growth, providing a unique environment for both training and exploration.

The centre operates as a PADI affiliated dive centre, focusing on professional instruction and responsible guiding. The team is composed of expert instructors who prioritise small group sizes to ensure a controlled and educational environment for every diver.

There is a significant emphasis on community empowerment and local expertise. By employing and training local divers, the centre ensures that the knowledge of the surrounding waters is passed down through generations of local professionals.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses for all skill levels. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water Diver course, while more experienced divers can progress through Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster certifications.

Specialised training is also available, including Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. For those interested in the technical or scientific side of the sport, the centre provides courses in Underwater Navigation, Fish Identification, Underwater Naturalist, and Digital Underwater Photography.

For those looking to dive without carrying their own heavy kit, a full range of equipment is available for hire, including regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, masks, fins, and dive computers. For night dives or underwater photography, torches and underwater cameras can also be provided.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time or manage nitrogen loading on multi-dive days.

The reefs around Pemuteran and Menjangan are characterised by vibrant hard and soft corals, including leather corals and various sponge species. You will encounter large schools of fish, including various reef fish, Fusilier (Caesio), and Damselfish (Pomacentridae).

Larger pelagics and mobile species are often seen around the Menjangan walls and the Tulamben drop-off. Keep an eye out for turtles, Jacks (Carangidae), and the Napoleon fish. You may also encounter Whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus) or other sharks and large pelagics in the deeper sections.

For macro enthusiasts, the area is exceptionally rewarding. The sandy slopes and muck sites host a variety of specialised life, including Garden eel (Gorgasia), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and various Nudibranchs. You can also find Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), shrimp (Caridea), and several types of crustaceans and crabs (Brachyura) tucked into the reef structure.

The diving environment varies significantly between the local Pemuteran reefs and the offshore sites. The Biorock and local reef flats offer calm, gentle slopes suitable for training and relaxed exploration, while the Menjangan Island sites can feature more significant depth and verticality.
