The reefs around Pemuteran and Menjangan are teeming with life, from large pelagics to intricate reef fish. You will regularly encounter turtles, Jacks (Carangidae), and various species of Angelfish (Pomacanthidae) and Butterflyfish (Chaetodon). Schools of fish, including Fusilier (Caesio) and various Damselfish (Pomacentridae), move in large numbers across the coral gardens, while Whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus) and Reef sharks (Carcharhinus) can often be seen patrolling the deeper sections.

For those attracted to the larger inhabitants, the area hosts many species of rays, including Eagle rays (Aetobatus), as well as various species of sharks and Tuna (Thunnus). You may also spot large groupers, Barracuda, and diverse species of Moray eels.

Macro enthusiasts will find the sandy patches and muck sites incredibly rewarding. The area is famous for its diversity of Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and Ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae). You can also find a variety of crustaceans, including Shrimp (Caridea), Crab (Brachyura), and various species of Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), including the mimic octopus and wonderpus octopuses.

The seafloor is a rich tapestry of life, featuring soft corals, table corals, leather corals, and various Sponges (Porifera). You will also find garden eels (Gorgasia), anemones, and electric clams tucked into the reef structure.

Diving in this region is characterised by generally gentle to moderate currents, though certain sites like Eel Garden can experience more significant water movement. These intermittent currents are often what bring in the larger schools of fish and pelagic species.

Visibility is typically good, ranging between 10 and 30 metres depending on the specific site and recent weather conditions.
