The marine life in Raja Ampat is defined by its staggering diversity, with thousands of species of fish and corals. You will encounter massive schools of fusiliers (Caesio), snappers (Lutjanus), and emperors. Large predatory species, including various sharks (Selachimorpha) such as Whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus) and Blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), are part of the regular ecosystem.

The reef architecture is built from a complex mix of hard coral (Scleractinia) and soft coral (Alcyonacea), including staghorn coral and sea fans (Gorgoniidae). These structures provide a home for a vast array of reef fish, such as Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), Humphead parrotfish (Bolbometopon), and various species of angelfish (Pomacanthidae) and butterflyfish (Chaetodon).
