Alpha World Diving

Established in 2018, Alpha World Diving operates from the coastal town of Sanur, serving as a gateway to the rich marine biodiversity of the Indonesian archipelago. While the centre is based in Bali, its reach extends far beyond the local reefs, offering organised packages to remote diving destinations such as Derawan, Pulau Weh, Manado, Komodo, and Raja Ampat.

The team consists of three experienced instructors capable of conducting a wide range of PADI courses. To ensure a focused and safe environment, the centre maintains a ratio of no more than three divers per guide.

Communication is seamless for international divers, as the instructors are multilingual, speaking English, Indonesian, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Malay. This allows for clear instruction during technical briefings and training sessions.

Alpha World Diving offers a comprehensive curriculum of PADI courses. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the PADI Bubblemaker and Seal Team programmes for younger divers. The core progression follows the Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Rescue Diver paths, including Emergency First Response training.

For those looking to specialise, the centre provides training in Nitrox, Deep Diver, Night Diver, Wreck Diver, and Sidemount Diver courses. Professional training is also available for those aiming for the Divemaster level.

Daily excursions depart from Sanur, with specific morning rendezvous times for different regions: 6:45am for Tulamben, Padang Bai, Gili Tepekong and Mimpang; 7:00am for Sanur; and 5:30am for Menjangan. For day trips within Bali, hotel transfers from Sanur, Nusa Dua, Kuta, and Seminyak are included. On board, you will find snacks, lunch, tea, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages, along with towels for your comfort.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit, including BCDs, wetsuits, fins, masks, snorkels, and computers. For those travelling to Derawan, Pulau Weh, or Manado, complete equipment hire is available. They also offer GoPro HERO 10 rentals for those wishing to document their dives.

Nitrox is available on request for an additional supplement, and the centre maintains emergency oxygen and first aid equipment to ensure safety standards are met.

The waters around Bali are home to a vast array of pelagics and reef species. You can encounter various sharks, including Whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus), reef sharks, and seasonal hammerhead sharks. Large schools of fish, such as Jack (Carangidae), barracudas, and tuna (Thunnus), are common, alongside eagle rays (Aetobatus) and blue-spotted stingrays.

During the mola-mola season from July to November, these unique creatures are a highlight of the local dives. In Nusa Penida, you may also find Manta ray and blue-spotted stingrays in the nutrient-rich currents.

For macro enthusiasts, the area is exceptional. You will find a diverse range of nudibranchs, Pygmy seahorse (Hippocampus bargibanti), and various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris). Other small residents include ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae), frogfish (Antennarius), and various species of shrimp (Caridea).

Fixed life is equally impressive, with extensive coverage of corals, sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and sponges (Porifera). You will see many species of anemones, gorgonians, and various types of reef fish, including clownfish (Amphiprion) and Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus).

Diving conditions vary significantly depending on the location. Sites in Tulamben and Sanur generally offer low currents, making them suitable for beginners. In contrast, Nusa Penida and Gili Tepekong are known for strong, sometimes unpredictable currents, requiring intermediate to advanced experience.

Seasonal factors play a role in site accessibility and marine life sightings, particularly regarding the mola-mola and manta ray populations. The visibility across the region typically ranges from 5 to 30 metres depending on the site and season.
