Aquatile Plongee

Aquatile Plongée is a well-established PADI 5 Star IDC centre situated in Argelès-sur-Mer. Since opening in 2003, the centre has built a reputation for technical precision and a deep commitment to the local marine environment, holding both the France Qualité Tourisme and Green Star Award labels.

The centre serves as a hub for divers of all levels, from those taking their first breaths underwater to professionals working towards their instructor ratings. Whether you are looking for a weekend dive safari or a structured training programme, the focus remains on high standards of safety and environmental stewardship.

The team is led by Karine, an E4 and PADI Course Director, and François, providing a blend of international PADI expertise and French federal diving knowledge. This dual expertise ensures that training is both globally recognised and locally nuanced.

Instruction is highly personalised, with a strict ratio of one guide per diver. The centre is also equipped to welcome divers with disabilities, ensuring that the Mediterranean's underwater beauty is accessible to as many people as possible.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the full spectrum of PADI certifications. Beginners can start with Bubblemaker or PADI Seal Team programmes, progressing through Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For those looking to specialise, the centre offers PADI Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Sidemount courses. They also provide advanced training for Rescue Divers and professional paths including Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and the Instructor Development Course (IDC).

The centre operates two distinct vessels to suit different diving styles. The Aquatile is a stable catamaran used for standard outings, equipped with a WC and a freshwater shower for your comfort after the dive.

For more specialised trips, such as dive safaris, the centre utilises the Mokarran, a semi-rigid vessel. Both boats are prepared to take you to the diverse sites along the Côte Vermeille, including various wreck locations.

On shore, the centre is well-equipped for a seamless transition from land to sea. You will find a dedicated classroom featuring a video projector for theory sessions, alongside free Wi-Fi and computers for your use.

Full equipment hire is available, providing access to recent and well-maintained kit. The facility includes hot showers, changing rooms, and a large parking area nearby for easy access.

The marine life here is defined by the rich coralligène habitats and rocky structures. You will find vibrant gorgonians and red coral decorating the walls, alongside encrusting anemones and various soft coral (Alcyonacea) species.

In the sandy patches and crevices, look for macro life including octopuses (Octopus vulgaris), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and various species of moray eel (Muraenidae). You may also spot seahorses or small torpedo rays navigating the seabed.

Larger residents of the reefs include the great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus), and various species of grouper (Epinephelus). Schools of fish such as dentex, sea bream (Sparidae), and gilthead seabream are common sights throughout the season.

Diving is available year-round in the area. The local waters are influenced by the Mediterranean's seasonal shifts, but the centre maintains a permanent presence to monitor the health of the marine environment and local conditions.
