Karma Diving is situated in Nusa Penida, Bali, a location renowned among divers for its high-energy environments and significant marine megafauna. The centre operates in an area defined by nutrient-rich waters that attract large pelagics, making it a premier destination for those seeking more than just a standard reef dive.

The centre provides access to the dramatic walls and drift sites that characterise the north and south coasts of the island. Whether you are looking to master buoyancy in controlled settings or navigate the powerful currents of the Indonesian straits, the focus remains on technical proficiency and environmental awareness.

The team is composed of four professionals, including three SSI instructors and a French state-qualified instructor (E4). This expertise is supplemented by a marine biologist on staff, providing a scientific perspective to the local ecology during your dives.

For those preferring instruction in French, the centre is fully equipped to provide guidance and training in the language. The diving operation maintains a ratio of four divers per guide, ensuring close supervision during the more demanding drift dives common to this region.

Karma Diving offers a comprehensive range of training through both SSI and French FFESSM/ANMP frameworks. You can begin with Basic Diver or Scuba Diver courses, progressing through Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water.

Specialised training is available to refine your skills, including Perfect Buoyancy, Navigation, Deep Diving, and the Enriched Air Nitrox course. For those looking to move into professional ranks, the centre provides Divemaster training, alongside FFESSM levels including Niveau 1, Niveau 2, and Niveau 3, as well as the Guide de Palanquée qualification. Specific modules such as Waves, Tides & Current, and Diver Stress & Rescue are also offered to prepare you for the local conditions.

The centre provides full equipment hire for divers travelling without their own kit. For those looking to document their underwater experience, GoPro cameras are available for hire.

Nitrox is available on-site, allowing for extended bottom times on the deeper walls and sites like Crystal Bay.

The waters around Nusa Penida are a magnet for large pelagics. You can expect to encounter Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) and the ocean sunfish (Mola mola), particularly around Crystal Bay. Other significant sightings include various sharks, such as the Whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus), and large species like the Whale shark (Rhincodon typus) and various rays.

The reef systems are built on a foundation of hard corals (Scleractinia) and soft corals (Alcyonacea), providing a complex habitat for a vast array of reef fish. You will see schools of fusiliers, snappers (Lutjanus), and various angelfish (Pomacanthidae) navigating the structures, alongside groupers (Epinephelus) and large jacks (Carangidae).

For those interested in macro life, the environment supports a diverse range of smaller creatures. Look for nudibranchs, various species of shrimp (Caridea), and octopuses (Octopus vulgaris) amongst the corals. The presence of ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae), pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus bargibanti), and various species of scorpionfish makes the smaller details of the reef just as compelling as the larger animals.

Divers should be prepared for highly variable conditions, as the area is known for nutrient-rich currents that can shift from weak to very strong depending on the tides. Some sites feature powerful downcurrents or upcurrents along the walls.

Swell can be a factor, particularly at Manta Point where it can reach several metres. Planning your dives around the tidal cycles is essential to safely navigating the drift sites and the protected bays.
