Lutwala Dive

Lutwala Dive is situated on the northern beach of Gili Trawangan, the largest of the Gili Islands in Indonesia. The centre provides easy access to local coral reefs and features a private beach with an excellent snorkeling area directly in front of the property.

Since its establishment in 2009, the centre has focused on maintaining high standards of instruction and safety. It serves both recreational divers looking for fun dives and students pursuing professional PADI certifications in a relaxed, intimate setting.

As a PADI 5* IDC centre, Lutwala Dive is equipped to handle everything from introductory dives to professional instructor training. The team consists of highly qualified PADI professionals who manage small groups to maintain a high standard of supervision.

To ensure a personalised experience, the centre operates with a maximum ratio of four divers per guide. This approach allows for more attentive instruction, whether you are completing your first Open Water course or working through a Divemaster internship.

The centre is also deeply committed to local animal welfare, particularly in supporting the well-being of the island's horses and cats.

The training programme covers the full spectrum of PADI certifications. Beginners can start with Discover SCUBA Diving, Bubble Maker, or SCUBA Diver courses, progressing through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For those looking to specialise, the centre offers several PADI specialty courses, including PADI Deep Diver, PADI Wreck Diver, PADI Photography Specialty, and the AWARE Shark Conservation Specialty. They also provide Emergency First Response training.

Professional training is a core part of the centre's identity, offering pathways through the Divemaster and Instructor Development Course (IDC) levels, including Assistant Instructor and Open Water Scuba Instructor certifications.

The surrounding reefs are home to a diverse array of tropical reef fish. You can expect to see schools of fusiliers, damselfish (Chromis chromis), and colourful butterflyfish (Chaetodon). Larger species such as snapper (Lutjanus), grouper (Epinephelus), and various species of angelfish (Pomacanthidae) are common residents of the coral structures.

Pelagic visitors and larger predators frequently pass through the area. Keep an eye out for reef sharks (Carcharhinus), including blacktip reef sharks and whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), as well as eagle rays (Aetobatus) and various stingrays (Batoidea). You may also encounter manta rays (Mobula alfredi) and large jacks (Carangidae) cruising the currents.

Sea turtles are a regular sight in these waters, with green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) often found near the reef.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers plenty of interest. Look closely for nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris), and garden eels (Gorgasia). You might also find seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), frogfish (Antennarius), and various species of shrimp (Caridea) amongst the reef details.

Diving in the Gili Islands involves varying conditions depending on the site. You can expect currents that range from very mild to occasionally strong, which is typical for the region.

Night diving is also available, allowing you to experience the reef's nocturnal activity under torchlight.
