Dive Central Gili

Dive Central Gili is a British-owned PADI 5 Star Dive Resort situated on the central tourist strip of Gili Trawangan. The centre is integrated into the Pesona Beach Resort & Spa, providing a seamless transition from your accommodation to the dive boat.

From this base, you can access the unique underwater landscapes of the Gili Islands, ranging from shallow reef flats to deeper walls and historic wrecks. The area is renowned for its turquoise waters and the ability to see significant marine life, including various turtle species and reef sharks, just a short boat ride from the shore.

The centre operates with a strong focus on safety and personalised attention, strictly limiting dive groups to a maximum of four divers per instructor or guide. This ensures that whether you are a novice or an experienced diver, you receive the necessary supervision and support during your dives.

The team is multilingual, providing instruction and guidance in English and Spanish. This makes the centre a practical choice for international divers looking for clear communication during technical briefings or training sessions.

As a PADI 5 Star centre, the range of training is extensive, covering the entire spectrum of recreational diving. You can begin with the Open Water Diver course and progress through to Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and eventually the Divemaster programme.

For those looking to refine specific skills, the centre offers several PADI specialty courses. These include Peak Performance Buoyancy, Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Drift Diver, as well as more niche options like Underwater Digital Photography, Fish Identification, and Dive Against Debris.

The centre maintains a fleet of equipment that has been updated regularly, with much of the kit dating from 2015 onwards. This includes a range of essential items for your dives, ensuring reliability when you are out on the water.

Nitrox is available on-site for divers looking to extend their bottom time or manage nitrogen loading on multi-day trips. The centre is also equipped to facilitate night dives, providing the necessary support for exploring the reefs after sunset.

The reefs around the Gili Islands are teeming with tropical fish. You will regularly encounter schools of fish including fusiliers (Caesio), damselfish (Chromis chromis), and various species of snapper (Lutjanus). Larger predators such as trevally, barracuda, and various groupers (Epinephelus) are common visitors to the reef edges.

Sea turtles are a constant presence in these waters. You can expect to see both Green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) foraging along the reef flats and walls. Large rays, including eagle rays (Aetobatus) and blue spotted stingrays, are also frequently sighted.

For those with an eye for detail, the macro life is exceptional. The sites host a variety of nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), garden eels (Gorgasia), and various species of pipefish. You may also find scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), frogfish (Antennarius), and ornate ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus) camouflaged among the corals.

The hard and soft coral structures provide the essential habitat for many smaller invertebrates, including crabs (Brachyura), lobsters, and various species of shrimp (Caridea). You might also spot sea snakes (Hydrophiinae) or even a pygmy seahorse (Hippocampus bargibanti) if you are looking closely.

The diving environment is characterized by warm waters throughout the year. However, the local weather can influence your experience; the rainy season from November to April may occasionally bring lower visibility due to runoff from Lombok.

During the drier months, the conditions are generally stable, though the warmer season can sometimes bring increased wind, which may affect surface conditions and water temperatures.
