Dragon Dive Komodo

Situated in Labuan Bajo, the primary gateway to the Komodo National Park, Dragon Dive Komodo has been operating since 2015. The centre is ideally positioned for divers wanting to access the park's famous currents and diverse marine ecosystems, located just 10 minutes from the airport.

As a PADI 5 Star IDC Centre and a recipient of the PADI Platinum Professional Development Excellence Award 2026, the facility serves as a significant training hub in the region. Whether you are looking for daily boat trips or a multi-day liveaboard experience, the centre provides a structured base for exploring the Indonesian archipelago.

The centre is built around a professional training environment, featuring a resident Course Director to oversee high-level instruction. The team is multilingual, with staff capable of communicating in English, French, German, Indonesian, Polish, and Cantonese, making it accessible for an international diving community.

Safety and personal attention are central to their operation, with a strict ratio of no more than 4 to 5 divers per guide. This ensures that even in the more challenging current-heavy sites of the north, you are well-supported by your buddy pair and instructor.

Dragon Dive Komodo offers a comprehensive range of PADI training, from the initial Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water Diver courses through to advanced levels such as Advanced Open Water, Deep Diver, and Nitrox.

For professional divers, the centre is a significant IDC hub. They provide the full suite of professional development, including Divemaster, PADI IDC Komodo, PADI MSDT, and Staff Instructor courses. Specialized training in Peak Performance Buoyancy, Drift Diving, and underwater Photo & Video is also available to refine your skills.

For those seeking a more immersive experience, the Shenron liveaboard offers dedicated cruises for up to 10 guests. These trips are designed to reach the more remote corners of the park, and the National Park fees are included for those on scheduled departures. Nitrox is available for certified divers on these voyages.

The centre also operates two dedicated dive boats for daily excursions, providing access to the local reefs and popular sites around Labuan Bajo.

The onsite resort provides a comfortable base with 19 hotel-style rooms, including private rooms and modern dormitories. For those working towards professional certifications, a dedicated training dormitory is currently in development. The facilities include a swimming pool, a training pool, a restaurant, air-conditioned rooms, and hot showers.

Nitrox is available on-site for certified divers. The centre is also a member of Green Fins, reflecting a commitment to responsible diving practices and environmental protection.

The waters of Komodo are famous for large pelagics and vibrant reef life. You can expect to see Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) throughout the year in the central areas, with oceanic manta rays appearing in the south between December and March. Large schools of fish, including various trevallies, snappers (Lutjanus), and tuna (Thunnus), are common, alongside Grey reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), Whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus), and Blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus).

The reef structure itself is a tapestry of hard corals and soft corals, often adorned with Sea fan (Gorgoniidae), sponges (Porifera), and various gorgonian fans. You will regularly encounter diverse reef fish such as Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), various species of Grouper (Epinephelus), and colourful Anthias (Anthias) moving through the water column.

For macro enthusiasts, the area is exceptional. Look closely for Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), various species of Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and the elusive Ornate ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus). The seabed and crevices host a variety of smaller creatures, including Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), various shrimp (Caridea), and crabs (Brachyura).

The diving in Komodo is defined by its nutrient-rich currents, which can be quite strong, particularly in the northern sites during the dry season from July to August. The centre adapts site selection based on real-time conditions and diver experience levels.

Generally, the seas are calmer from April to November. In the southern regions, the waters can be particularly rich in plankton from December to March, which often attracts larger pelagic species.
